So from what I read its good even for AT to always be using the parking brake. When the car "lurches" forward and back after parking on an incline it puts that weight on the transmission, which isn't exactly a great place for all that force to go. I've been doing this ever since I first started driving, and a good habit to have.

right, "in theory" you should come to a complete stop, pull the parking brake, then shift the gear selector to park

I do this all the time. People who don't put the parking brake up need die, lol jk...but i don't understand why they think it's acceptable to not put it up?

A good habit to get into. Since the parking pawl essentially locks the transmission's output shaft to the transmission casing, use of the pawl (pin) only, especially when parking on steep inclines, means that drive-line and transmission components are constantly under stress, causing wear and eventual failure of the parking pin or transmission linkage. I've seen it happen.

i always did ever since a lady in a brand new camero put it in park and it still rolled down the parking lot and almost hit my car a few weeks after i got the TSX.

my driveway is at a good angle and I use it there.

I would say I use it only on hills when I think its needed.

i always use it, i find it funny when i see someone stop, shift park, the car lurches, then they put on the parking brake... hahaha like "good job buddy"

also, my ebrake is used for drifting and just awesomeness all around, i love it

My ebrake doesn't make the car slide when it's moving....it's pretty much useless when the car is moving.

I always do:

1.foot on brake
2.shift to park
3.parking brake
4.let foot off brake

There shouldn't be a difference if you reverse 2 and 3 as long as you have your foot on the brake at those times right?

I put the parking brake first just to ensure that the pressure / weight is on that before I shift into park....with your methodology, i feel a bit of rock when I do it.

I do what opboarding does. The few times I've tried to be lazy while on a flat surface, I invariably end up reaching for the brake anyway when I leave. Figure it's easier just to do the same thing over and over, rather than have to think each time.

haha I dont think about it anymore either, its a habit now. I always reach down to release the lever even I drive an SUV that doesn't have the lever down below.

Pretty much. I only know a couple of people who actually use it. Every time I ride with someone and it lurches hard, I cringe. I'm actually surprised so many people voted yes to this. I guess that makes sense because if you are here you at least know/care a little about cars.

On my 08 Civic, I always pulled it because it was right next to me. I traded that for a 2012 RDX where the brake was on the floor so I stopped doing it as it was far more annoying than anything. Once I traded the RDX for a TSX, I started doing it again since it's positioned just like my Civic.

All cars need parking brake handles by the dash somewhere. I come to a complete stop, pull the parking brake, than release my brake pedal. My car is in my drive way on a flat surface right now and the parking brake is pulled. Just a habit.

i pull it...always have, always will....and even if is a flat surface, some shit might hit ur car and damage more than just a bumper. the tranny will get weight on it. probably not enough to mess it up but id rather still pull the parking brake as opposed to not pull it. someone said they use it for drifting? on a tsx? i......i.....i want to learn......

wow i think i'm going to the one of the select few that don't touch that shit it isn't a manual car so i don't see the use of it on this now if i'm on a retarded hill yes but everyday normal parking waste of time the transmission will not let the car roll so i'm good sorry.

actually this wont do much good....your brakes are more powerful than your parking brake....you want to make sure ALL the weight in on the brake and not the tranny....

this is how you should do:

Stop
Shift to N
Parking brake engaged
Foot off the brake
Let the car settle
Foot on the brake and hit P

this way the weight of the car is on the parking brake and not the transmission....

This seems like it would be pretty difficult to pick up and make a habit. That's adding a lot more steps.

well if you want less steps then might as well engage the parking brake when in "D" and shift into "P" as shifting into neutral and not removing your foot of the brake is not doing anything....

yes it took me a while to get into this habit but I never experienced any jerks/pronounced movements when parking or putting in a gear while leaving....
