hmm now that i think of it, the filter placement is better on the bottom rather than side mount, at least the oil does not drip on suspension parts/axels, etc. trade off i guess, oil all over those parts or oil all over the filter/hands

also, for filter wrench, i used this:

its spring loaded so it can handle virtually any size diameter, and it grips the filter as you turn it counter clockwise.

no, 1 is oil, 2 is tire i believe. correct me if im wrong but im almost 100 percent sure of that.

PS: never pay for a air/cabin filter change

So yes, the B1 is just like a regular oil and filter change with a few inspections in there. The 2 is the air filters.

Don't know if you guys noticed but the A service is just an oil change (no filter) so I've known of some dealerships that will just do the fluid without the filter change.

what would you guys do?

i bought a bosch filter, but bought the wrong one, so im gonna return/exchange it. the bosch filter doesn't come with a washer, should i just go to honda and get a new washer? or just get the oem filter w/ the washer and just return the bosch. i've read the new oem fitlers aren't as good...but i mean, it's OEM. so does it really matter?

and do you guys measure the .2 quarts from the markings from the bottle? or do you just guestimate? or you guys have a better more accurate method?

Ed, at that point you're splitting hairs. Oem filter is fine, Bosch is fine. I use saved my 7 dollar Oem filter for maybe next time. The Bosch was 13 bucks...but it's nice though. For washer, just get one at autozone or advanced auto. Cheap.

For .2 quarts guesstimate. I put about a 1/4 bottle in, then let it sit... Sort for 2minutes, then measure. Was perfectly between to dots. Voila.

put in 4 qts, then start the car for a few seconds, then pour a little more, check the dipstick, pour a little more, check the dipstick....repeat until it is at the top dot

I actually enjoy changing the oil on the TSX. It has to be one of the easiest cars I've ever done. Picked up 6 OEM filters with crush washers for $36...I think? 5 quart jug of Mobil 1 at Wally World for $26 and away you go.

The more you guys actually change oil, the better you will get at not getting the oil all over you. Picking up some latex gloves will help. After you spin the filter loose a few times around and it starts dripping, pull your hand away and let it drip for a while, with the catch pan underneath of course. Then, put a rag or ziploc bag over it and take it off the rest of the way.

I also highly recommend anti seize on the lower engine cover bolts, or I guess, now screws. Remember, a little goes a long way. Again, this makes them easier to remove next time.

I also recommend pre lubing the oil filter gasket, which makes it easier to remove next time, without having to resort to pipe wrenches and impaling it with screwdrivers. (I also learned this from experience) and pre filling the filter with fresh oil prior to reinstallation. The oil changing noobs will be ninjas in no time.

i was going to writeup a DIY for this too but it's really so easy there's no point. Just pop the hood, locate the airbox and unclip the 4-5 retaining clips and replace the old filter with the new one...honestly takes longer to type this out than actually do it.

there are no bolts. pop your hood, prop it up, on the right side theres a big square box thing, there are 5 hook type clips. 2 towards the front, 2 towards the back, and one toward the inside of the engine bay. just put your thumb under each and push away from the box. pull the top up a few inches, pull out old filter. put in new filter in the same position, place the top down, secure the clips. done.

my friend's jack wasn't that great though, so it won't fit the side and wasn't long enough to jack from the front

odd question, but how many miles do you guys go in between oil changes? i have traveled almost 5K highway miles since my last one (lots of highway) and oil life is still at about 70% per the gauge cluster.

also i have a honda dealership that is almost next to my house, what filter do i ask them for that will work on my TSX K24z3? 8th gen accord?

they'll know what filter. small tidbit is that every single acura uses exactly the same filter. they are interchangeable. i figure that holds true for honda

Last time went 9800 miles before the oil change. Roughly 80% highway. Oil life indicator was showing 15% at that point.

OEM works well for me and it's cheap. I get the Honda oil too, which seems to work well as well, and is also fairly cheap. I don't see good reasons to use anything else at the moment.

I was able to back up onto them to do my RSB but not the front?

Agreed. OEM filters are great and with the right contacts, you can get them in bulk for super cheap. And isn't Honda/Acura oil just Mobile One?

Just did my first oil change on my '12 SE this weekend. Was surprised to see these screws. The '11 Sport Wagon I had still used bolts. The screws were a pain, because they screwed into something flexible, so the stuff just flexed and the screwdriver would slip. I had to use an impact driver to get them out.

Does anyone else do what I do?

I buy an extra 4 quarts of cheap oil, after I drain out the dirty oil, I pour the fresh 4 quarts of cheap oil in, let the car run for 15 min, then drain that crap out, then I replace the filter and add the mobile1.

It seems like overkill but I enjoy knowing it is flushed each time, I also have a magnetic drain plug.

Thanks for the DIY...looks easier than changing the oil on my RSX with the filter being on the bottom instead of the side.

I just bought my TSX on Saturday at a dealership in Chicago, but I already want to change the oil because 1) The dealer overfilled it (the oil on the dipstick sits about 1 inch above the top fill line) and 2) I'm not sure if they used synthetic when it was just serviced.

I was as skeptical as you were when I bought mine used with 48K mi. I checked the dipstick and the oil did not look new. I drained it and used a synthetic blend, did the transmission and brake fluid while I was at it. Nothing beats peace of mind!

I apologize for reviving an old thread, but I just brought in my vehicle into the dealership for an oil change. 2013 TSX Tech Package Automatic with 4k miles. The service manager there said that the indicator states 40%, therefore there is no need to change the oil.

So, I am used to having the interval of 3-4k miles per oil change on my 2002 accord.
The service manager tells me:
"That is the old way way of oil changes, now the intervals are no longer needed, but rather just change when the indicator shows up that a oil service is due. Also, if I do want to do an oil change right now before the indicator shows up, all the A1 codes will also be cleared, so they will not show up anymore."

Is what the service manager described accurate??
I am skeptical, but I am definitely not knowledgeable.

I appreciate anyone that can provide some insight.
