Buying a used TSX - What to look for?

Good morning everyone. I'm going to test drive a 2010 Acura TSX today with 95k miles on it. Are there any issues with the TSX that I should pay special attention to? I was looking at the Lexus IS250, but the carbon build up issue was a big concern for me. Is there anything like that or anything else I should look for when checking out the TSX today? One thing I noticed was that on the carfax, the oil changes are done around every 9-10k miles. Is that normal on these cars? It's a 2 owner vehicle.

We just bought a 2015 Acura TLX and love it so I'm hoping the TSX will show the same type of quality.

Thanks in advance.
Jeremy

I use the Maintenance minder for my oil change. Usually it’s 7700-8000 miles, given my driving style.

Thanks for the response. I've heard you should go by the minder on the TSX. I just put the oil changes down on paper and there are larger gaps than I initially realized. I'm wondering if these could have been due to self changes or maybe unreported changes??? Guess I'll have to ask this question when I see him. Here is a breakdown of the oil changes reported by carfax.

9-10K miles is pretty normal. The maintenance minder is dynamic. It sets the oil change interval depending on driving style. So maybe the PO drove gently, in more ideal conditions. And maybe they waited til 0% oil life to change oil (I always do).

As long as its not burning excess oil, and as long as it drives well, it will likely continue to drive well.

Get a 6 month warranty if its available for reasonable money. Just in case you find that it burns oil excessively (more than 1qt per 1K miles)

Thanks for that additional information. I'm waiting to see what the bank says. They didn't like that it had over 90k miles. The price is about $9500 non tech model.

That seems like a reasonable price. I paid $9600 one year ago for a 2009 base TSX with 96K miles for my daughter. I bought it from the original owner and it included maintenance records. I really liked the way it drove so ended up buying a 2014 TSX for myself a few months ago. Comparing the two, the only noticeable difference when driving them is the 2009 with 100K miles has a slight vibration in the steering and there is tire noise from the cheap tires installed by the original owner. The 2014 has only 10K miles on it and the original Michelins are very quiet.

Good luck in your car search.

Thanks for the feedback Knavekid! We decided to buy the car. It was from a second owner and he had all of the service records. Even the ones that didn't show up on carfax. The only issue that i have found with it is that is has a VERY slight rotor issue. I'll do some searching on here and see if people recommend turning the rotors vs replacing them with an aftermarket version. Other than that, I drove it for about 100 miles yesterday and it drove great. The factory stereo sounds way better than the factory stereo in our 2015 TLX (until I added a small sub). Everything appears to work as it should. I did notice a letter in the paperwork from Acura that mentions oil consumption with these cars. It mentioned that if we are experiencing high oil consumption then Acura would fix the issue.

The OEM battery sucks big time. I just replaced mine after buying a 2012 CPO TSX 2 months ago. The battery I replaced was 2 years (20000 miles) old. At 6 pm on a Sunday night, I had no choice but to go to the nearest autoparts store for a replacement.

Thanks Richie. I think the battery in ours is about 3 years old. I haven't noticed any problems with it yet. I have noticed what I think is the VTC Actuator rattle this morning. It was a little cooler this morning and when I started up the motor, I heard the rattle for about a second.

I'm thinking about selling my 2010 TSX tech package. Where are you located at?

Hey Sergio. I actually bought the one I was looking at. Hope I didn't miss out on a good deal. Good luck with the sale.
