Brakes – 2010 TSX V6 – Advice Please
I have 69,000 on my OEM pads and rotors and would like to replace them. Obviously, I’m not an aggressive driver, but I would like a little more bite at freeway speeds (80mph) when someone does something stupid and I need to brake quickly.
I don’t want anything track or high performance and I don’t want to hassle with constantly having to bed the brakes and put up with excessive noise or dust. I don’t want brakes that need to be warmed up to work properly.
I called my dealer and they wanted $485 per axle for OEM. I could live with that, but was hoping for something a little better.
I found a local shop that will install the brakes I supply for $150 per axle.
I did some research on AcuraZine and found a few choices. They are…
Stoptech Select Sport Axle Pack
Power Stop Evolution
Centric Street Pack
Any thoughts about which would best meet my needs would be appreciated. I’m a little concerned that the Stoptech might be a little bit more performance than I’m looking for. Any other kits I should be looking at?
Thanks in advance for your help

I just installed some PowerStop on my Rav4 last month. I purchased from RockAuto.com. I was truly amazed at the difference in braking. I would estimate easily 15% or better braking. Braking is actually a pleasure. You can actually feel the difference, not to mention how nice these rotors look on your car. Sorry, I have no experience with the other brands. They could be just as good, just don't know. NOTE: The brake pads come with replacement clips, rubbers and such. Pay special attention to make sure all the clips and rubbers are replaced in their correct position.

I currently have stop tech pads, lines, and rotors for my s2000 and just pads on my TSX. It’s worth the upgrade and you will be able to see the difference in braking power. My suggestion is to call KamiSpeed and they can give you a package for rotors and pads for your vehicle. Cheers

Rockauto:
Blank rotors. pick one. doesn't matter. its a rotor. They also sell E-coated versions for corrosion resistance.
Unless you want drilled or slotted ones for looks.
Stoptech SPORT pads (don't confuse these with the STREET version). They do dust...but no noise and excellent feel.
Or Raybestos EHT. Good bite. Moderate dust. But kinda squishy feeling.
Dust = pads that work.
Or Akebono's ASP performance pad if you really want low dust for some reason.
You can also source OEM pads from bernardiparts or similar. The OEM pads aren't awful.
Or buy rotors from rockauto and semi metallic pads from a parts store.
My opinion is that ceramic pads are not worth buying.

I got a stoptech rotor and pad package from XLR8, I went with blank rotors, and had a local shop install them. I've driven about 5k miles on them so far and have been great.

Thanks guys for the advice. As I was researching options, a comment by BROlando stuck with me: “Blank rotors. Pick one. Doesn’t matter. It’s a rotor.” Haha! Yep, no need to overthink this. This is what I ended up with…
Very pleased with the result. Smooth, firm stopping power, no pulling, no shuddering. I also just recently bought all new Michelin Pilot Sport A/S tires. With the little extra zip of the V6 the combination is athletic and an improvement over the OEM setup. I’m guessing the PowerStop option would have also been an excellent choice – just got a pretty good price on the StopTech combo.
