Automobile Magazine Review

A positive review of the TSX. It also confirms the diesel engine for next year...

Unfortunately, while the torque of the diesel is very tempting, the horsepower is way low, and the diesel powered TSX will even SLOWER than the current TSX...

Since there is no chance, apparently, of a more powerful engine for the TSX, I am definitely jumping ship when I get my new car within the next couple of years.

0-60 is about 9 seconds (same engine tested in a 2008 model), but whether it suits your needs depends on your driving habits.

True for 0-60, but to how many people does that really matter? The truth is this. Diesel vs. 2.4 (201HP) gas, the gas would beat the diesel from 0-60, but any other acceleration contest, such as merging on to a high way, passing that slow poke that is annoying you, well, the diesel with its huge wave of torque will be significantly quicker, and you don't have to rev the piss out of the engine to get to the torque. The feeling of all that torque being available at <2,000 RPMS is very easy to get used to. Unless you are a drag racer (and if you were, I would argue that the TSX is the wrong choice anyway gas or diesel), then the diesel is the better choice for day to day driving. I know with my VW TDI (RIP-the tranny blew up), I was able to surprise many drivers driving around town with the huge wave of torque which let me execute passing manuvers at LOW RPMs.

Driving around town, 258 lbs/ft of torque would be a sheer blast! We're talking about being able to lay a strip of rubber in any gear. Those 201 HP from the gasoline engine are only available to you at the red line. By that time I'm a block ahead of you.

My question about the diesel engine is, what is it like in a highway passing situation? With my 2004 TSX (6MT), I can easily pass other cars at highway speeds without even down-shifting. I have to believe the diesel engine's gearing will be drastically changed from the gasoline engine, in order to actually get 50 MPG highway. Will I have to downshift in order to pass?
