Alarm System

Just curious to know if anyone had an additional theft deterrent system installed on your Acura. I know the '09 TSX comes with a basic alarm system with starter kill but wondering if that is enough to prevent thief?

Believe me if some one wants it they can get it no matter what type of alarm they have.

Ugh c'mon dude, everyone knows that. If you agree to what you say then why do you lock your doors for?

Any ways, to dramatically increase your chance of spotting and retrieving your car from theft is to look into LoJack. They have an early warning system where if the car is moved without your permission (ie transmitter is not near the car) you will be alerted. Once you find out that your car is missing, you call the local police and provide them your VIN number and saying that you have LoJack. Now there's no guarantee that your car will be retrieved but statistically, according to LoJack, cars that are equipped with LoJack has a 90% chance of retrieval.

Another good theft deterrent device is a two way alarm. Most probably know what this is already. It's a remote with an LCD display that alerts you when you alarm has been activated.

Talking about security. I know the dealer offered me to VIN etch for an ungodly amount. I denied it.

Tonight I was googling for VIN Etching and I see a DIY kit for 30 bucks from http://www.vinguard.org/

Question - how useful is it? Is it something I should just do. It seems to come with 6 UV panel etching kits too (good for doors, hood and trunk)

Is it worth it? If so I dont mind spending 30 bucks and a few hours of my time for it.
