Multi-Point Inspection?

Hi all,

I had my 13 TSX serviced for engine oil and filter for the 3rd time...

and I will be soon to make appointment to the dealer for the 4th time and it's for B2 service...

My car is currently around 18200 miles and will take my car to the dealer at 18500 miles (assuming 10% oil left)

The first 3 visits, I have taken to the dealer purposely just because I was not familiar with car mechanics near me... so i will do more research next time and take my car for the service...

and I can't do my own oil change because I live in apartment and don't have the time and the tools to do them on my own... XD

at any rate, B2 service is basically engine oil, filter, rotation, and inspection right?

so my question is,

1) Where shall i take my car for Multi-point inspection? Just because I want to get a report on how my car is doing...

2) Do any car mechanics do inspection? and for how much?

I want to know your experiences.

Just about any mechanic would be able to do the inspections. Basically any place with a lift. If you just want a record, you could print out the list and take it in. Have them check it or something. Or look up what sort of multipoint inspections are offered at various local garages and see which is closest to the Acura B2 service which is as follows:

"B2" Service:
Replace engine oil1 and oil filter
Replace air cleaner element2
Replace dust and pollen filter3
Inspect drive belt
Inspect front and rear brakes
Check parking brake adjustment
Inspect tie rod ends, steering gear box, and boots
Inspect suspension components
Inspect driveshaft boots
Inspect brake hoses and lines (including ABS)
Inspect all fluid levels and condition of fluids
Inspect exhaust system#
Inspect fuel lines and connections#

1: If message, SERVICE DUE NOW does not appear more than 12 months after the display is reset, change the engine oil every year.
2: If you drive primarily in dusty conditions, replace the air cleaner element every 15,000 miles(24,000 km).
3: If you drive primarily in urban areas that have high concentrations of soot in the air from industry and from diesel-powered vehicles, replace the dust and pollen filter every 15,000 miles (24,000 km).
#: See information on maintenance and emissions warranty in your owner's manual.
Independent of the Maintenance Minder information, replace the brake fluid every 3 years.
Inspect idle speed every 160,000 miles (256,000 km).
Adjust the valves during services A, B, 1, 2, or 3 only if they are noisy.

Well, to me, looking at that list, the important thing is the oil/filter.

It calls out both air filters; "air cleaner element" is the engine intake filter, "dust and pollen filter" is the HVAC cabin filter. You can do both of those yourself. Save $$ ordering parts online and no labor cost.

It's almost comical how much they charge to do the cabin filter, like hundreds if dollars when it's like a $30 filter and literally 5 minutes if you work glacier slow.

The rest is inspection items... YMMV on how comfortable you are skipping them. If the car is in good shape, you're probably okay not getting it all inspected. Most of it is just visual and you could probably do the engine bay ones tourself without lifting the car. Suspension and brakes, you would probably need to pull a wheel to check each corner.

oh yea, I am going to do engine oil, oil filter, and rotation for sure...

YEa, I am going to buy both engine and cabin filter on amazon and do it myself... just didn't know when to change it... i was going to do it when it was around 20,000 miles..

thanks!! now i got to find a place to do my multi-inspection... i want to keep my car healthy to prevent future problems

IMO its a big waste of Money
all easy DIY
Use the jack from your car & rotate the tires and do the inspection....

Right. 5 minutes to swap out the cabin filter and 4 hours to get that stupid shelf back in properly.

<p>Yes... please use <strong>jack stands&nbsp;</strong>if you're going to get underneath your car (or even underneath the wheel well) for even a few seconds. The probability of a floor jack giving out at any point in time under load, let alone a scissor&nbsp;jack, is way too high. If you value your life, or limbs, or any part of your body, then put your car on jack stands before going under. of course use Jackstand that's just common senses!

yes, how do i put the shelf back properly??

I just did in cabin filter but I can't freaking fit the shelf back into place...

For now, I just left it there... angry..

True that, I always cringe when I see the tire guys use those hydraulic pro lifts...There was a guy here who died using one of those, the car came on top of his head..

Anyways, yea the cabin/air filters are probably the easiest things to replace next to switching out head light bulbs. For tire rotation, just go to any good third party tire shop, and they'll do it for 10 bucks or less, throw another 10 they'll give you a wheel balance too.

K/N air filter = $50
Cabin airfilter = $17-20
Oil = 5 quarts of mobile synthetic 1 + filter deal @ autozone $40.00
tire rotation+balance = $10-20
Brake pads? = Akebono front/rear $70.00 + another $70.00 to resurface rotor and install.

You're looking @ $270.00 total, which all the services I just listed would cost $700 @ the dealer. no joke

You can get oil + oil filter even cheaper than those vatozone “deals” at walmart.
