the 2009 TSX's "Keen Edge Dynamic" styling...anyone else find it to be awful?

this is quite possibly the ugliest external redesign i've ever seen Acura do. it seriously looks like a current-model Toyota Camry that got whacked with the ugly stick about 14 times. do you guys like it? honestly?

i'd take the 2004-2005 or 2006-2008 TSX body over the 2009 anyday. call it bland, call it girly, whatever...it looks way better than the new one.

also, same K24 engine? does anyone else feel weird revving their "family near-luxury sport sedan" up to 7000 RPM? i sure do. and if you do put 4 people + cargo in it, you can be darn sure that you have to rev it up quite high.

roughly $33k for this car? it's still a 4-banger, after all.

thoughts?

Did this really need another thread?

I don't agree. It's not perfect, but it's not ugly.

And given the increase in feature content, the price seems spot-on. It's only a few hundred dollars more than the outgoing model. For reference, the Frontrack Audi A4 2.0T, Saab 9-3 2.0T, & IS250 are all several thousand dollars more expensive (similarly-equipped) and offer no better feature content or performance.

yeah but all those cars you just mentioned looks way better than the new TSX, and they give you the option of FWD & AWD, and RWD for the IS250

But not everyone wants or needs AWD/RWD, which is why I was comparing the TSX to the FWD models.

Lets not compare the TSX to anything because that would be just be dumb. The TSX cannot be compared to any other automobile because it's simply in its own class. A 33k front wheel 4 cyl car. No comparison.

its pretty ugly looking honestly. the rims are terrible and the grill is just god awful.

the IS250 actually at most dealers costs less than this new TSX because of discounts... look at carsdirect, almost $4500 off sticker.

Gee, what a great idea. Lets compare the price of a somewhat aging vehicle after discounts w/ the MSRP of the new TSX.

Unless you need a car in the next 3-5 months wait until the end of the year. I'm sure you'll be able to find a loaded TSX w/ Tech for $30-31k.

Eh, at least the interior looks good.

So you won't feel ugly inside the cabin.

See I disagree.
I really don't like the interior personally.

Some people are real picky about some things.
I'm picky about interiors.

I'm not saying the 1st gen TSX's interior is anything great, it's not.
But the 2nd gen's is much worse to me personally.

I really don't like where the screen is.
I really don't like that big button wheel on the dash.
I really don't like the 33/34 buttons on the dash.
I really don't like all the plastic and it's finish.
" " the emergency brake.
" " the new steering wheel.
" " that the TSX's interior is almost exactly the same as the US Accord's.

there's other things I don't like, like the blank slot on the passanger's door
down near the pocket. Just cheaping out on molds.

I don't like paddle shifters either. I like the sport shift down on the stick.

...

So like I said, everyone has certain points they care more or less about, and
even if people share those same points, they may like different things.

The majority of you seem to like the new interior, so seems they did good in their
change. But you would never catch me owning a 2nd gen TSX as they are in '09.

/rant over.

this is a ranting thread right?

You are absolutely entitled to your opinion. I'm honestly curious to hear what interiors you like in this segment.

FWIW, I don't think the interior is perfect, but I like it a lot. I love the gauges w/ their floating needles (very similar to MB & Volvo). I love the seat design (looks very comfy). I love that there is a proper parking brake handle and not a pedal. I also like the steering wheel, although I wish some of the buttons looked better integrated.

Wink

^^ Actually the 04-08 TSX's interior has been one of the best I've seen still.

I get a lot of compliments on the interior, but probably cause I got a Pioneer Navi where the radio is supposed to be.

I'm with you. I think the interior is where they cheaped out. The "swoosh" is nicer, going all the way down to the arm rest, integrating the parking brake lever, but ... not extending to the doors? Most of the other niceties, were in the 04-08 model, but distinct from the US Accord. (jwaters943, I'm thinking of what you just called out ... I think all those are features of my 2006.)

You can't have an "upscale," "step up" sedan that has the same @*#& as it's poorer cousin. It seems so lazy. It makes people think, "Well, I can just get an Accord, save money, and save on gas (using regular unleaded)."

The "aging" IS250/350 looks MUCH better than than the "new" TSX. The IS demonstrates a classic design with modern contemporary lines. The TSX is simply a bloated "reubenesque" re-hash of the aging 1G.

After being teased with the Sports4, I and most others were thoroughly disappointed with the camry-like styling. Add the heavier weight + decrease in power, Acura/Honda has a major failure.

Jwaters, the polls indiciating 80%+ are disappointed show you are one of the few who like the "new" design.

And my last 2 cars were Acuras.

Time will tell if it fails as badly as you're predicting. I've been around multiple car message boards long enough to know that the 1st-gen wasn't universally loved when it first came out. Most people said it looked too much like Camry at the time (tail lights) and complained about the fact that it was basically just a Euro Accord with a different dash and a bit more power, yet it sold decently well (over 2x what Acura predicted).

While I don't expect a huge jump in sales the recipe is basically the same as the first gen so that alone should keep sales at around 3k a month.

Looking at mine when I parked at last night, I was reminded how smooth and elegant and minimalist the 1st gen is, and the '09 model just kinda ruins that in front. The front doesn't look "aggressive" to me so much as ... American. And that potato peeler.... :barf: I saw an RDX(?) or two this morning with the double potato peelers, and I nearly flinched.

JDM grill, that is what I am thinking about. Or maybe wait and see what Mugen can come-up with.

Ab-sol-friggin-lutely. The front end looks like a cogent, unified design in Europe. Add the '09 American Acura grill, and it's like putting a bosom on Mr. Potato Head instead of his nose.

Not to be dense, but so do you like the EuroAccord and don't like the TSX because of the grill?

Just making sure I understand what you are saying. If so I tend to agree to certain extent.

There are some minor things about the Euro Accord that I don't like (like the bubble on the headlight shroud), but I could live with them all. I take that back ... the '09 Euro Accord looked fine to me.

I just don't like the Acura bat'leth, it truly looks "bolted-on" to me.
