2009 TSX - Designed for these guys

For those that are curious, Acura's 'advance' consumers seem more interested in talking on the phone & playing with their iPod than driving:

I don't even own an i-pod...

so why would I buy an '09 TSX then?
oh, I don't talk on the phone while driving either...

so, where does that leave me?

screwed, that's where.

I don't feel bad at all about my '08 anymore.
I think I'll keep it until it dies.

I have to after looking at that pic again. Just more proof that actually driving the car and vehicle dynamics don't seem to be Acura's main concern with the 09 TSX.

I was really hoping that when the pictures came out today my negative opinion would change about this car, but that didn't happen. Maybe I should do what these guys are doing: don't look at it, and don't drive it.

Yeah...it's pretty clear that the A/V experience has trumped the driving experience for the geniuses at Acura. That's the way it should be...

The exterior on the front and sides of the car are not impressive. I don't think it is as attractive as the current TSX. The rear is fine.

I'm all for Acura targeting the Market segment of the young urban professionals (Yuppies).

That Market segment is a large and legitimate one especially with the economy doing not so well, young professionals are looking for a nice sedan with style and value.

I just feel they missed the mark on the exterior styling of the 09 TSX.

Interior I'm sure is a nice improvement though.

If there was ever truth in advertising, Honda is clearly being as honest and forthcoming as they can be.

Funny thing, I was just speaking with one of my 2005 TL customers whose lease is coming up in July. He saw the mini-brochures we received yesterday and is putting his name on one of the first batch.

He is not the guys in the picture, he does not browse these boards, but he loves the look! He's a professional photographer in his mid-40s.

Yeah, sounds about right.
They're going for the older crowd that doesn't care about performance obviously.

The guys in the picture look like they should be in Entourage! Honestly though, I do like the new TSX and will probably sell my MT 05 and buy one. I like the mix of performance and creature comforts so for me it seems like the new model will deliver.

Too honest..... that kills the car!

Regarless.... pls admit the fact that Honda screw up on their new lines' design big time. The new TSX looks so like one of those US Built car like Chevy Malibu...., etc Where that hack is the Japanese character on this Japaneses Car which supposes to carry the real Europena style that cannot be found here!!!???

Sad thing is that I know guys like that and they're more likely to drive a BMW or Audi....oh wait, they do drive BMWs or Audis. I think Acura would like to get customers like that, but most likely it's gonna be people in their 40's who are gonna buy this car......maybe.

Why does he make the asian guy sit in the back instead of shotgun?

...and is most likely finding Kenny G's "Songbird" on his iPod.

Could it possibly be that advertising is geared to make guys in their 40's feel like guys in their 30's? Might this not be a good advertising campaign?

what do you want... rednecks? senior citizens? fat people going to Taco Bell?
what a silly thing to complain about... young professionals out having fun.

The advertisers can't promote the "good looks" of the car, can they? The designers kinda screwed them on that angle, didn't they? And obviously a TSX buyer is not that concerned with absurd horsepower 16mpg engine or a $50k+ status symbol excessive luxury car.

The white guy up front is the chauffeur. What amuses me most about the picture is how far back the rear seats look. They must have removed the steering wheel for the picture or used some crazy lens.

I believe I'm going to pay the premium (3-4K more) and purchase a 09 or 2010 Cadillac CTS when my lease is up in April of 2010. I just don't like where Acura went with the TSX and I think I get more value for my money purchasing a CTS than a TL (although we haven't seen the new TL yet).

I just don't think Honda has been very creative in their styling. Look at the two buttons on each picture. Same location, same size.

is that top pic from the Euro or USA Accord? i like the dash on the Accord version than the TSX one, looks cleaner and less confusing with less buttons. the hazard button is in the right place on the Accord. on the TSX why is it under the huge ass navi knob? also, i like the placement of the vents on the Accord more than the side vents on the TSX.

No, I think Honda did state that they were targeting the "young urban professionals"....people in their 20's to 30's. I would think they want people in their 40's to buy the RL or TL.

But obviously the new TSX doesn't catch the eyes of the 20 - 30. But instead, it seems like the design is for 40 + range

I'm 20, almost 21 and hate it. I would have bought the new TSX but I bought an 08 Altima instead with more gadgets for less.

Exactly. I don't know anybody in the 20-30 range who likes the car's styling and none of them are car "enthusiasts". So if those people and the enthusiasts aren't gonna buy the car, who will?

[sigh] You're still missing my point. They SAY one thing but MEAN another. I'm suggesting that the purpose of advertising is to capture the person who views himself as the ad portrays, not necessarily the guy in the ad himself.

Sorry, I can't explain it any better, but think of it as selling an image.
