17s or 18s?
Hey hows it going! I am due for some new tires in about 3-6 months, around the same time I am supposed to receive a check! So, I think I am going to just get a tire and rim bundle for $1200 or so. I am wondering if 18s will effect the smoothness of my ride? I know that the higher you go, the rougher the ride, but that is only an inch difference, so that won't be a big deal, will it?
I just think 18s would look a tad bit nicer since there seems to be plenty of extra room for them. And also, can someone shoot me some recommendations on a good gun metal/black gloss rim that is light weight and high quality? Thanks! |
I have a set of 18" with 235/45R18. Looks and feels great!

perhaps not smoothness; but a increased diameter wheel will bring more heft. you may feel a little more heft with acceleration, cornering and braking.
|
Heft, as in weight that will slow me down and lower control?
|
yes. a bigger heavier wheel will slow you down, limit cornering abilities and increase stopping distances. ALL bad things.
|
While I don't discount the idea that heavier wheels hurt performance my experience with going slightly heavier or even much lighter has not realized any noticeable losses or gains.

I went from stock 17s to aftermarket 19s and felt no difference in the performance of my car. They are definitely a little heavier but I have not noticed any decrease in acceleration and/or stopping distance. The only thing is that my 19s have a width of 245 whereas my stock 17s had a width of 225 so that increase in wheel/tire width makes the ride feel smoother, in my opinion.

oh, and do the tires wear out faster since they are smaller? |

Nice. Maybe I should go 19s. When the suspension lowers from bumps and stuff, it won’t rub on the car? oh, and do the tires wear out faster since they are smaller? https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/acurazi...24e9e89a45.jpg |
^ man I saw that post the other day and think it looks SICK!!! that is crazy that it is from an Accord, because it has an A on it and looks like Acura wheels. Super cool.
I would definitely drive those, but I think I want to get something black. Any recommendations? Good websites? |

I love the look of black wheels on a grey car. I use TireRack.com to look at wheels quite a bit (never purchased through them but they have a large selection to look at). Also depending on where you're from, keeping on eye on your local classified ads is a great idea too. |

Thank you! I definitely love them... I think they totally change the look of the car. They have the A on the centre cap because I just popped the centre caps out of my stock wheels and popped them into these... lol!

So I think I’ve changed my mind from 18s to 19s but will it make a difference in the life of my tire since I’m getting low profile? Because I don’t want to have to spend more money. |

oh you can pop the A on? That’s awesome. I’m going to try that when I get some. Unfortunately I’m getting black so I dunno if that’ll work.
