Does anyone here have a dash cam?

I just purchased one and need to find a installer. Anyone in NY knows of any shop?

Do it yourself, it shouldn't be that difficult.

If this "dash cam" is the ones where you stick on the top of the front windshield, then run the wire under the headliner, under/down the A pillar, under some carpet or something, then back up to the cigarette lighter area or fuse box, depending on the type of dash cam. There are videos on YouTube posted by installers/consumers. Otherwise, install shouldn't be difficult. Save yourself some dollars to spend elsewhere

I saw a guy on here who tapped into his rear view mirror power... You should look into that, much easier! (Too lazy to look it up)

I routed mine down the a pillar then straight to the fuse box under the dash where there are open terminals to use. That way your cig lighter is still nice and clean looking and no visible wires.

I've been looking to get a dashcam to catch all the people that hit my car and drive off without leaving a note. To date, I've spent $2500 on my 2012 TSX repairing all the damage.

But I'm concerned that someone is probably gonna end up smashing my window to steal my dashcam. Has that happened to anyone here?

Are you planning on putting a camera in the back window as well? A dashcam is only going to capture what happens forward looking, no?

The one I have has 2 cameras so one points towards you and the other points out the windshield. Its not HD clear in the videos but it does catch stuff through the rear windows as well as the driver side window. Also its supposed to have a feature that will auto record if the car is bumped while parked. Ive had this one for almost 2 years and only problem I ever had was the suction cup thingy lost suction 2 times in very hot weather. http://www.amazon.com/BOOMYOURS-270%...words=DASH+CAM

I want a dash cam but I feel that it will give someone a good excuse to smash my window and take it. I want to make an enclosure that blends in with my dash somehow so it's not visible. Someone come up with an idea so I don't have to.

People hardly recognize my dash cam.

If you place it by the rear view mirror, most people won't recognize it.

If you're worried about someone smashing your window, hook up the DEI 506T.

The only way ANY dash cam records while not running is if you hardwire it to get power 24/7. Most have built in batteries that lasts a measly 20 minutes without being plugged in.

For people who want to save money and hardwire it without buying a "hardwire" kit:

The car charger the dash cam provides is typical. It has a negative lead, and positive lead.

Route the car charger wire through the headliner and A-pillar down near the fuse box. The car charger they provide is usually very long.

Wrap wire around the corresponding leads on the car charger, and put the negative wire to a ground bolt such as under the steering column and put the positive wire to an "add-a-fuse" to a fuse that gets power 24/7.

Attach a SPST switch on the positive wire to cut the power to the dash cam so you can turn it on and off when you don't need it such as when you're parked in your garage.

Completely irreversible, no splicing into car wires, no mods to the dash cam or charger.
Everything hidden.

^Nice little hack to save money from getting a "hardwire" kit. They usually charge $25+ just for that module which links up with the fusebox like you mentioned.

I don't have dash cams, but $350 sounds a bit stiff. With that being said, we don't know what their install was going to include or how they were going to do it. If you aren't sure of this installation cost, shop around and/or hit some stereo installation shops as a point of reference. Either that or hit up some of your local Acurazine members for some help.
