is it worth having the dealer clean injectors?
Was thinking since my car will be at the dealer for a new tranny, might as well have them clean/purge the injectors and flush then engine. What do you guys think?

SEAFOAM is the ziners answer to injector cleaning and engine tune up in a can
The dealer will use the same product but do half as good a job as we can- and we can do it for 20 bucks!!!!
new DIY coming- found best way to do it!!

DIY seafoam: remove plastic engine cover for ease of access- 4 10mm bolts iirc and the cover is off. Mine stayed off months ago for improved engine cooling-
at the throttle body to intake manifold connection by the left upper/front bolt of the TB to manifold- you see a black rubber hose with a clamp on it-bigger than normal vac hose- goes into the front of the TB area
and if you follow the rubber line that crosses the stock intake rubber snout from the air filter--thats the hose
You need a piece of spare hose and the dip and repeat method of DIY seafoam continues from there.
That vac port pulls over 20 inches vac at idle and 25 with a little rev.
I tested this last night and got tailpipe smoke at 1/3 can and at 1/2 it was smoking the parking lot and engine died twice.
It was getting to all the cylinders right away without a doubt.
Poured the rest in the tank and went for a thrill run with sustained 5200 rpm in vtec and lots of low rpm to WOT into vtec. Clean everything out good!

^ I finished my first Sea Foam treatment with an oil change yesterday.
1 can of Sea Foam into 1/4 tank of gas
1/2 can of Sea Foam into TB (then did a number of VTEC hot runs)
1/2 can of Sea Foam into the crankcase (then drove for 2km and idled for 3 min before oil change).
The car is definitely quieter and smoother after the treatment.
It was not a drastic night-and-day kind of change, as my engine was well-taken care of, but every bit of improvement helps.
I mean to do it again before the next oil change.
In all, a thumbs up for a cleaning job that cost me $13.

the gas will continue cleaning things for the next few days
Dont be afraid to get out for some fun runs, as high heat is a good thing for this purpose.
Its a good idea for first timers to repeat vac and gas tank method in 2000 miles
That will get out the last of the stuff.
Gas is expensive and about to go astronomical
I do whatever possible to provide the engine with clean operating conditions

Took pics but having trouble on host sites right now. Will get them onto the Seafoam DIY thread.
All you have to do is remove the plastic engine cover- and right there is the hose that comes across the top of the airbox to TB intake hose and goes to the front on the TB mounting area
You cant miss it

The TB plate where the bolts hold the TB to the intake manifold- it doesnt change with CAI
You may have moved the vac line to under the cai- but it still hooks up in front.
The hose thats a bit smaller than your pinkie finger- and has a clamp you can remove with your fingers- that would be the one.

Note the removed hose lays to the right- as a spare hose (not from car) is used to get the seafoam in
The nipple is the vac port and that is where the suction is

what exactly is seafoam and what does it do?
#21
Its a hi-detergent oil mixture that loosens grunge-carbon and other combustion byproducts
Used in the intake vac line- it directly cleans the valves and piston tops.
In the gas tank it cleans the injectors and some more on top of pistons
See DIY section- page 3 of those threads, for full details
This vac port I am using does feed all the cylinders- unlike the method most of us were using.
Safe to use right before oil change in engine oil too.

read the DIY on Seafoam-
I do a dip and remove the hose method- every few seconds pull the hose out of the seafoam for a second to let the engine stabilize - then put the hose in back in- keep repeating.
The idea is to give it little sips of the stuff- while blipping/holding the throttle slightly to keep the engine running. It will quit running very quickly if you get to much seafoam at once- just restart the engine no prob- mine quit twice. You do NOT want to hi-rev suck it in- that makes it go faster past the things you want it to work on.
With the old method it took the whole can, and then a just little smoke came out the pipes.
With the direct port- it was 1/3 can and engine died- restarted and noticed slight smoke drifting behind the car. Got another 1/3 in and it died again- now there was pretty good smoke, so I decided that was enough and let it sit with the engine OFF for10-15 minutes.
Then fun run to blow out the gunk- get the engine and exhaust HOT to burn up the crud.

I had a piece of hose laying around that fit. Otherwise any parts store can look under the hood and say- you need 5/16 tube.-example-
Will get out the micrometer and check mine as it was not well marked and advise.
