Hi All, I am wondering if my TL is worth fixing the front end damage? How much would it cost? Blue 2g TL Type S with 175k Miles and maintained fairly well. All fluids and services changed regularly (also modified. CAI, DC Headers, Pulley, Tein Springs, RPF1's, etc)

I was on my way to work when someone came out of a turn. I tboned his car. I only have liability insurance. Not sure if I should fix the car, or just get a new one and scrap the parts. Any help and options would be greatly appreciated.

Jokes aside...
Is really hard to tell from pictures if the Chassis Frame (Thing that goes underneath and you didn't picture) is bent...
All you pictured is body panel damage that can be Easily (add With money here) Fixed, Heck even the frame can be swapped and call it a day.

Now is it worth it? ONLY YOU MY FRIEND CAN ANSWER THAT.

If they pulled out in front of you their insurance should cover it? But I would take the check and buy another car, TL's are cheap...

"turned in front of you looks suspect in an intersection. Either someone tried to run a red or he turned earlier.. You're welcome to lawyer up and fight it considering technically you had the right away so his liability insurance should cover it. But up to you.

Obviously your bumper is hosed. It looks like it's the other party's fault. If so, their insurance will total your car because of the airbags as mentioned. The market value for these TLs is VERY low so the insurance check you'll get probably won't cover repairs.

What mods do you have on her? As mentioned you might come out ahead if you part it out. I might buy your seats

Didn't notice the air bags, also will need seat belts. Add another $2000. Repairs will be $6000+.

I'm sure it will be totalled and you'll be given a cheque, but you could buy the car back from insurance if the damage is cosmetic. You can get junkyard parts easily for this car. Or at least try and get as much of the performance parts off the car before they junk it.

I don't think its the end for ur TL. Mines was in a accident also, and both airbags blew. A local body shop quoted me $400 to straightening everything out, and I went to the scrap yard and got both airbags for $50 a piece and it was a cake to install. I say keep it. Im gonna get several pictures of my TL up here on this thread so you can see that u still got hope. Now keep in mind, while ur car is easily repairable, the frame will never be as straight and rigid as it once was before the accident, but a good body can straightening it out to the point where it wont be very visible that it was involved in a accident.

My car isnt really that off, all they are gonna do is tie it down to the frame machine and straightening it, reienforcement bar is kinna off but the core support isnt really off, but than again, $400 was the lowest price i got with $837 being the highest from another shop. Every shop is different and i guess it depends on how outta whack ur frame is.

So as u all can see, i need some work done too. Hood is also not closing easily or seating right, i was gonna try the chain and pole method, but i think i will just leave it to the body shop lol.

It seems to go straight most of the time, sometimes it will pull slightly to the right if i let go of the steering wheel, but after i visit the body shop, im gonna get it aligned anyways.

Yeah man! Im gonna post pics when I get it done, I hate looking at the front of my car ughhhhh, im looking for a laguna green TL that someone may be parting out, that way, its cheaper than getting the hood and bumper painted and I don't have to go a week without my car. Even though my front end is a little out of whack, if the hood and bumper were painted the color of the car, it wouldn't look NEARLY as bad...

As much as I love this car, it will need 13 parts to be replace and lots of $$ to make it operational. It does not make sense to repair it financially. (Cost over $4k even with donar car and parts!)

I think I will hold this car the way it is for now and look for one on craigslist with bad transmission. Then Swap tranny from this TL. Heard the J35A3 + J32A2 Heads engine swap with all bolt on mods was a pretty fun combo. Maybe time to test i tout Problem is finding the color Aegean blue pearl is a rather difficult task.

I found several cars on CL, but they are supper far away from Seattle! 2k or 3k miles!

Insurance company still did not make any action yet. Car is drivable and rattling. I got a lawyer to fight the ticket from the court. Will see how this plays out.



Header, Cai, Pulley, Tein Springs, Enki RFP1's I think I will part her out. It makes the most sense to me since fixing will cost way to much.


Thanks for you insight here, but I counted 13 parts to be replaced. With a doner car and labor, it would probably be around 2k + Minimum!

Big update!! I found a parts car with the exact same color for $700! It has 250k miles and needs a transmission. The body has some clear coat fade, but owner kept it in fairly good mechanical condition. 2 options here. What do you guys think? Which one will be cheaper, and which one will be the better choice overall?


Option 1. Fix up original car with parts car.
Pro:
No need for engine swap
No need to swap all mods over (CAI, Headers, Pulley, Tein Springs, Body Kits)
Firestone lifetime alignment will remain life time.
Lower Miles 175k
No change with insurance

Con:
Will need frame Repair
Need to replace air bags, SRS module, seatbelts, and sensors



Option 2. Turn Parts car into 2G 3.5l Type S TL monster with J35A3 swap.

Pros
300Whp
No need frame repair
Need to replace air bags, SRS module, seatbelts, and sensors
Lower Engine milage from J35A3

Cons
Need Engine and Transmisison Swap
Need to swap over all mods (CAI, Headers, Pulley, Tein Springs, Body Kits)

Option B! Swapping those things is fairly easy. I just wouldn't want to deal with frame damage.

honestly i say option 1 would be better, all the parts are there, and u get to keep ur original car. You can sell the remainder of the parts car to help pay for ur frame repair, forget that engine swap. Option 1 is much smarter imho, simple and quick.
