The World of TL and tranny issue

I purchased a 2003 Acura TL Type S from an auction in PA on Monday. Drove the car for about two minutes and got the code P1750, which means new transmission. It is amazing that it was fine in the auction parking lot, but when I got off the premises, it started to act up. The transmission started to slip from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd. The most interesting thing that occurred was the D-5 light started blinking, and then the car went into like fourth or fifth gear. The car had a slow start, but the transmission never slipped. Drove for over 80 miles to my house with no continued issue. If someone can please explain this shift into fourth or fifth gear would be greatly appreciated.

Wierd Never heard of Skipping so Much Gears involved in the Tranny Suicide...
Never the Less that sounds like a dead tranny to me, How much did you end up paying in the Auction?

FYI: P1750 is Not directly Related to a Dead Tranny, The one for the TQ Solenoid is (P174X).

Sorry to Welcome you to the Forum in Such a Sad Note.

Wow that really sucks it's already blown up on you and you just bought it. Maybe take it back to the dealer and tell them because that just isn't right. On my odyssey right before the trans died all the way it did the same thing. D light flashing and staying in what seemed to be fourth gear. If the dealer won't fix it I'd start by draining all the fluid out and replace it see how it is then. Although beware of this because sometimes when the tranny is going, the only thing that keeps it running is all the particles and crap in the fluid. Good luck.

Crap I just noticed you said its from an auction. That really sucks.

I paid $3900. It is all good, I will get it fixed drive until the warranty runs out and sell. I decided to jump to the import industry because of all the talk about american cars being crappy. Sorry to say, all cars have their flaws.

When the original tranny on my 2002 TL-S (now sold) crapped out, it was temp related.

First thing in the morning, the cold tranny shifted fine for the about 5 minutes. Then as it started to warm up, the 3rd gear started slipping.

I don't think you should even drive the car with the tranny slipping in the first three gears. It is outright dangerous.

Well at least you didn't pay a ton and after the trans is fixed you'll have one hell of a car!

This was exactly why I traded in my 2G TL-S in no time, as soon as I detected the telltale symptoms of another failing soon tranny, and that the tranny extended warranty had all but expired.

I can imagine that hundreds, if not thousands, of 2G TL owners are all dumping their rides with potential failing trannies, into the used car market, just like myself.

That's why I keep telling everyone to stay away from 2G TL/CL at all cost, especially if the price is too good to be true; unless the seller has proof that the current tranny has been replaced with the latest revision Honda rebuilt one.

That is crazy that they would sell thes cars with a defective tranny. All of them should have been recalled and replaced. Sorry but this gives a bad name for the Acura/Honda company. Yes, I will ditch this car as soon as possible. I like the car for the short amount of time that I have driven it. That is saying alot for me, I told myself I would never buy a Honda product. I am sticking with that idea. Sorry to say that to all the Acura lovers.

You should do your homework (researching the car you're gonna buy) first before buying ANY brand and ANY model of used vehicles.

If the car price is too good to be true, do even more vigorous research on the car because it may be a money trap sometime down the road.

The research had been done, but did not know the tranny was going to go within minutes from purchasing it. It is all good, this car is only for a short season.

From my experience in Canada any vehicle sold at auction should have 1 week money back if damages exceed a certian amount, id look into it.

Buy a newer accord trans or oddy trans. instead of a rebuilt (not to mention much much cheaper) They seem to be better and have been working for the swap scene in accords and civics.
