Did this happen to anyone like for example on a long trip and was left with a huge tow bill?

If it happens on a trip- simply have it towed to the nearest Acura dealer- they will pay for the tow
Then ask for a loaner car and continue on!
Come back and your car is ready- even washed!

There are a pile of "how it happened" stoires in the the massive Tranny Failure Thread.

Try seaching that thread for "towed".

Stranded almost on Rt 8 in Connecticut. Getting on from Rt 34, I barely made it up the entrance ramp, so just got right back off and that was it.
Prior to that it had just slipped twice in two days so I called for an appointment, I was going to take it in the next day, but I didn't think it was going to fail so quickly, it seemed like I had more time (slipping was minor). Funny thing was I had posted on a different forum asking how long from first slip to failure, but I made the call right away and got an appointment so I didn't think I had anything to worry about. Afterwards I looked at the post and people were like "don't drive it!" so now I know for the next time!
But roadside assistance took care of it, and it was a Sunday too so that was good.
