What makes a '03 TL-S?

Forgive me for the dumb, dumb question.

For a while I thought the '03 TL I bought was a TL-S type simply because it had a sports-shift lever.

However, I have since seen pictures proclaiming '03 TLs as TL-S (the red marking/label "S", I mean).

So not sure if what I have classifies as a S-type or simply a TL. Below are its salient features as reported by NMVTIS.

Body Type
4D Sedan

Manufactured
United States

Drive Line
Front Wheel

Engine Type
3.2L V6 EFI SOHC

Fuel Type
Gas

Make
Acura

Model
TL

Corporation
Acura

Model Year
2003

Production Seq. No.
00----

Trim Level
Base

Vehicle Class
4D Sedan

Sounds like you got a base model but pictures of under the hood or interior will confirm it

Items that the 2G TL-S has and the regular TL doesn't, and are difficult to swap out (unlike rims, shift knob, emblems, etc.) :

- VSA system ("VSA off" button, VSA warning light in instrumental panel)
- black on silver instrumental panel
- perforated leather front seats
- hollow center and triangular-shape front seat head rests.

Oh, I believe it was my fault entirely *doh*

It is a base TL with a sport-shift, not an S-type. It wasn't misrepresented as such. Just my understanding of what S-type is. There are no part-swaps of any type.

The VIN for a type-s would be 19UUA568 OR 19UUA569( NAVI)
The type-s has 17'' five star wheels 215/50R17 and the base TL
would have 16'' wheels 205/60R16. The wood trim on the interior would be black-gray for the type-s and the base would have brown/tan color wood trim. The front shocks are different other than that there is not much more that's different between the two models

Easy very Easy

Open the Hood > See Engine > See VTEC Label > Is it Red?
> If Yes you got a Type-S
> If Not You got a TL-P.

Wouldn't you just have to look at the gauges. Black it's a TL-P White it's a TL-S.

What if one were to have swapped the small cover, type-s and tl-p have the exact same cover

unless someone were to have swapped them out.

The Vin is the easiest way to tell, Other that and open the hood and look at the engine. Look for the stamping on the motor. It will say J32A1 or J32A2 (the later being the type-s)
