Hi fellas. Was curious what former 2G TL owners got in sale or trade?

Hey Jdmassett, Generally you're at the mercy of the buyer when you are attempting to sale any car over 10 years old and with well over 100k on the dial.

If ya can provide detailed documentation of PM and the car appears extra clean, then ya may get lucky with a private sale. But, on the other hand....trading it will basically just be allowing the dealer to dispose of your old car, IMO. They won't liberally give any discounts or other incentives on the new car and normally will only give ya the wholesale auction price for the old jalopy.

I haven't sold my car yet, but I can tell you it's really all about the condition and what work has been performed. I've recently looked at new cars and suggested a trade-in to a few dealers and the response is almost universal.

Generally, for all used cars the big item is the T-belt change as many will try and sell cars with the original and most used car buyers are savvy enough now to ask that question. Unfortunately for us, all used car dealers and most individuals know about the sad history of the transmissions in the TL's and once again, if you still have the original untouched, then that will weigh heavily on the value. Both original and you're in for a rough ride trying the sell your car. Oh and don't be tempted to fix that little dent as any and I mean any over-spray screams accident repair to any buyer. Believe it or not, the little dents and dings all over the car are proof that the car has never been repaired.

So in short, it's more about the general condition and the service history than anything else. Of course, the more documentation you have, the better your story will appeal to any potential buyer.

Thanks for the info, but I was stating that my car sold for $6700, private sale. Was just curious what other TL owners were getting... Car was really clean but I was actually pretty pleased with that amount considering the mileage and age.

Was more interested in comparing what people were getting for their TLs...

Ya did ok on a private sale. The "S" model and being "really clean" paid off for ya !!!

So what are ya buying ?

Thanks! Was curious if people were getting around that/more than that.. I think I could have possibly sold it at 6900 but something about the 7k mark kept the interest away.

I bought a black w/ umber '11 TL SHAWD, love it so far, gotta stick with Acura, they've been good to me

A couple $100 bucks is peanuts and in your case ya made a quick sale and were able to take advantage of a much more lucrative deal on the '11 TL without a trade. Ya got a top notch loaded car at a bargain, as the previous owner sucked up major depreciation.

Had ya tried to trade your old TL, ya would've paid full retail for the '11....while giving up your old one at wholesale. So, at the end of the day, ya made out rather well....a win, win. Good luck with the "black beauty". Keep it nice and when the new car fever hits ya down the road a few years, do the same thing again with the next gen "TL-X"....right around the corner !!!!

I sold my 03 type s a couple weeks ago for $6500. 130,000 miles, no nav., anthracite with lots of peeling clearcoat, original trans, but new timing belt and plugs. I sold it to an acquaintance/customer, and had several people interested.
Had aftermarket wheels with summer tires, snows on the oe wheels, about one season left on each. I bought an 02 avalon with 150,000 miles for $4200. All the maintenance up to date, and probably 2-3 years left on the tires. I couldn't pass it up. I'm enjoying the new found freedom of not having any emotional attachment to a car. I mean it's just a car, it's like a japanese buick, or like buying a new stove or fridge.

03 TL-P w/ Navi, black with beige interior. Got $4,500 for it at 103~k miles. Missing fender liners.. bumper still only held on by two screws.. OEM hood from another 2GTL but still black.. 3.2TL not really aligned since it was a type-s trunk off another car and type-s badge was debadged... car is out of alignment since i took off my ingalls arms and put OEM back on and never got an alignment after that and after putting stock suspension back on as well... small dent near where door meets quarter panel. and one dying transmission.

Bought my '00 TL-P non navi at 200k, original owner, exterior 8/10, interior 9/10 for $3,600. 200k scares the average joe, but not me. This car was babied 110% its entire life.

Most cars that are over 5 years old, when traded in for a new car, don't see that dealer's lot. They go to auction. Most cars over 10 years old either go to auction or just get junked. My sister traded in her '01 Accord VP at 166k for her '12 Civic, she got $1,300 from the Honda dealer. It was a great car. I asked the dealer what is going to happen to it, and they said it was going to be put on a truck and destoryed.

You mentioned you sold it private. How did you market the car? Through what websites? Local newspapers? or just knew someone personally that bought it?
