If you live in the D.C. - Maryland area this is a P.S.A.

The word on the street is car thieves are targeting ACURAS. TSX CL and TL All years have been found with the interiors striped clean and engines gone. Please keep your eyes and ears open. Park in well lighted and high traffic areas.

its easy to steal cars now bc ppl go outside to start their cars and go back home and the thief got the keys and and unlocked car. on most car your cant lock it from the outside when the key is in teh ignition (thats how our cars are, unless u have an aftermarket alarm)

back in the day- I remember a guy with a new engine in a vw van:
Calls up a week later- hey my van wont start- its being towed in

Open the rear hatch and the entire engine is GONE
only 4 bolts hold that engine in~

There is a major police issue in my area, lots of car theft from engine running while you went back inside to get the coffee or ice scaper or whatever...
a thief sees exhaust smoke and no movement inside the car- that thing is history in 2 seconds.

The first time, the cop just stands next to your car waiting the 5 -10 minutes for you to return and mentions that anyone could have come taken the car in that time.
If they see you again, its a ticket!!

The club type device that goes from the floor to the brake pedal is fairly effective at stopping the casual thief. If they want your car though- its theirs. Keep full coverage replacement cost insurance!!

Really? I tried it one time a couple weeks ago... true I had to use 2 keys, but I managed to get it to work... just started the car, closed the door and used the other key to manually lock it... seemed to work just fine...

If you dont have a built in remote start with the kill switch, leaving your car running anywhere! without you behind the wheel -doors locked and the windows up---
well thats an invitation for someone to make it their new ride!!! for 10 minutes or so~

All they have to do is walk down the street and take their pick of cars with exhaust smoke and no driver, car in front of a house, in the driveway.
Worst, they get all the stuff you already loaded in the car before you went back in to get coffee...

For the car- consult your owner book- cold weather you want to get moving as soon as possible- thats what warms the engine and gets it on the fuel lean system instead of full rich warmup mode

Spray De-ice products will handle the windows in seconds

Plenty of gen2s need body parts, the engines are popular with street racers, the headlight bulbs are worth some crack~ you get the idea

cold morning, guy walking sees a warm ride to his destination a few blocks away, they view cars as a free taxi,,, that they get to drive!!! experienced driver or not

my experience says the $35 device that goes from the steering wheel down to the brake pedal and keeps the pedal from being pushed,,is a wise investment in security anytime its parked!!
It wont stop the thief that really wants your car, but it will stop the morning warmup driveoffs

I assume you are not leaving the garage door closed!!! so its sitting there waiting to be stolen for 3 minutes
It takes about 15 seconds to watch you go back in the house, jump in the car and be gone in 30 seconds---with the keys to your life as well!!
Winter is when this crime most often occurs--who wouldnt want to jump in something warm to get down the street

Next week- as you leave your neighborhood- count the exhaust steam rising from unoccupied cars in driveways, and garages, cars with kids in the back seat and no driver....

see anything you like Sir?--maybe a lexus? perhaps a TL??
you used to have one exactly like this??- really--mmmm lets go look at something else!!

Near me- the cops drive around and stand in your driveway to have a chat about security---everyone thinks it was just a few minutes, but the news crew riding with the cops showed 5 to 12 minutes average!!!

$300 certainly seems cheap it if you like to have to car run a few minutes before going out to face the snowdrifts

hope you have some type exhaust fan in the garage, carbon monoxide is a killer to those in the house-though you are probably getting a nice buzz as you walk into the space!~
Maybe open the garage door a few inches....

at the very least: go buy a carbon monoxide detector- just like a smoke detector device and install it in the garage. 20 bucks may save a life- it may be your life- or your spouse or infant or neighbor...wouldnt that bum you out to come home and find out!

FYI ALL -Dont park backwards in the garage either - blows exhaust right at a door into the house in most cases
A detector warning system says not to leave the car running in an enclosed area

Dont seafoam in the garage either~

I am a pilot and have suffered carbon monoxide poisoning when an exhaust header broke in flight, The airplanes cabin vent was directing it straight into a very small space with not much in the way of rolling down the windows!~!!!

we like you zeus- and all our acurazine brethren- bonded by love of the same type car.
All we are doing is using you as an example for others to look at their own life
We do so much without thinking of the potentials in each situation-good or bad

So everyone, please survive the holiday driving season and the winter craziness on the roads! It really is Survivor out there-Have to outwit outthink and outdrive the other players in the game every time you hit the roads...at least you have a minimum of basic driver training and skills-passed an actual driving test at some point, plus a real drivers license and .....insurance!

Welcome to 1994. It's known that when you purchase an Acura you are a target to thieves wheather the car is stock, dealer modified, or aftermarket modifed.

This thread scared me. I go out to get in my car and the spot I thought I parked in was empty! I had not driven for a couple days so if someone stole it, I didn't even know!

Luckily, my car was right on the other side of the street (forgot I had the late night munchies & had moved)...across from the spot I had thought I was at....but the damn Chicago snow pretty much covered my car so that it wasn't recognizable....that's what you get when you don't drive & it snows.
