undercarriage skid plate

Hey guys, so I cracked my oil pan again... I'm getting it replaced right now, but I now see that it's vital to protect our oil pans when being lowered. I was wondering if anyone has ever fabricated a custom skid plate for their undercarriage? The guy at the shop quoted me $200 for the job since it is custom work. If you did make one, how much did you pay?

There's a local guy here in New Orleans that made a skid plate template for a 6th gen accord, which has the same exact frame as a 2G TL/CL. I'll post the template up later on when I get on a computer

I would definitely lower mine more if there was some type of skidplate. Every time is see debris in the road I think "is this the end of my oil pan/engine?" I am interested!

no.

your intake manifold isn't even close to touching the hood.

and its not like you're gonna stick a 1" thick spacer for your motor mount

I see. Have you ever dealt with engine mount spacers before? It seems kind of dangerous if it's not done correctly.

have you checked your motor mounts? they could just be bad and cause engine to sit lower.. not sure if this applies to the TL but i would check.

I'm interested in this as well. If you find something I'd def be willing to throw in to hopefully get some kind of group buy!

I recently had the engine replaced, so hopefully the mechanic threw in new motor mounts. As for the skid plate, I'll probably try to get one custom just to be on the safe side.

Sort of off topic:

How much did it cost you to replace that oil pan? I'm yet to confirm it, but I'm fairly sure either the bolt threads are stripped, or the gasket is leaking because the oil spot on my driveway is getting larger and larger.

I know I could go with an oversize drain bolt if its the threads, but I'd rather just get the pan replaced and be done with it.

You don't need blueprints you just need the material cut to size to fit your frame rails and mounting holes put in it to match holes on the frame.

Yeah, as 'ol Mil said.....some common sense logic and ingenuity will work without actual engineering prints.
