Transmission issue after oil jet kit.

Err,

Just a few months ago, I received a letter from Acura regarding inspection of my transmission and an addition of an oil jet kit. So I had this done at no charge. They also told me that upon inspection, they found nothing wrong with my transmission.

I have noticed transmission noises prior to this letter, and thought this oil jet kit might be the fix, but the noises continued even after the installation of the kit. Sometimes, my entire car would shake when going up an incline with constant throttle.

Today, I took my car in for service at the dealership. I told them that my transmission has been making some pretty ugly noises. The mechanic at Acura accompanied me for a roadtest, and I was fortunately able to replicate the noise.

The mechanic immediately told me that my transmission is "slipping" and has to be replaced. I asked the mechanic, "if it is slipping, then why aren't my RPM shooting up?" He replied "it is not getting to that point yet, not yet a "full flare."

So I guess the lessons learned are that a) the oil jet kit and inspection did not fix my particular "slipping" transmission problem b) the rpms do not have to "shoot up" to show signs of slippage, it could be less obvious.

My 2000 TL has 83950 kms on it, which is equivalent to approx 52167 miles.

The mechanic has also told me that I would get an updated version of software for my transmission. I do not know where this software resides, but I hope it doesn't change the way the transmission shifts too drastically.

as stated in the 165,448,736,589,304,658,399,756 THREAD's about the tranny there are 2 problems and the oil jet doesnt fix the issue your having. atleast the mechanic noticed that it had a problem and stated to get a new tranny instead like so many others had to wait for it to actually fail

Yeah...

Yeah, lots of threads on this issue.

But maybe now the tranmissions have finally been fixed. I'm getting mine ordered today, and the dealership will call me when it arrives. Hopefully that software will do something to extend the life...

If all else fails, a 5 series would be nice....

the software wont fixi it. that was one of the first thins acura did to try to help it. (i had 2 fail with their ECU fix) the only fix would be a upgraded part and casing design

So there is no solution huh? Wow, that sux. I really like my Acura, why does it have to be unreliable. I bought it for reliablility.

Like I said, a 5 series....

they may have finally changed teh casing? the oil jet is now built in so maybe the 3rd gear clutchpack has been redesigned, or helped out with better cooling

Break-in

Does anyone know if we need to break-in newly remanufactured transmissions? If we do, how many miles should we "drive easy" with it?

yes you need to break it in. just like it was new. 300-500 miles nice and easy driving

That sure is an ignorant remark. First, the tranny is warrantied til 100k. Second, it's about the only major problem with the CL/TL. Third, comparing a 5 series to a TL is not good, due to price. Fourth, BMW have their issues as well, but in different areas.
