For anybody that is still going to do this replace this get the pulleys and the tensioner it is not that much more, and trust me I had a pulley seize up and the belt melted inside the engine luckily when it failed I immediately shut off the engine and it did no harm luckily other than completely having to redo everything after only 30,000. Hope this helps

Just got a call back from Honda dealer - denied. Said they called the Jersey dealer and they "are losing their asses" on this.
I can sympathize, but still pretty pissed considering they guaranteed price matching.

Don't know about the cost but I did notice a difference after I just replaced mine. Also make sure you do tensioner and tensioner pulleys.

WOW that deal still going? I must tell a few people who were envious of me "bragging" about the deal i got there!!

My experience there was great! I had the Timing belt w/tensioner replaced, Changed Tranny fluid and they inspected the whole car and gave u a report!!
Of course they tried to "sell" you more stuff!(Tried to make me get my braked done there BUT the special $99 they had didnt include the TL so i declined)

I planned to be there ALL day since it was 90 mins from me (its close to 6 flags)
But i was surprised to be out by lunch time!!!


I wouldnt pass this up!!

Hey I just made my appt for this Friday. I'm currently at 92,000miles. Does it matter that I'm doing it before the 105k ? Also they're just replacing timing belt, drive belt, water pump, coolant, And tensioners for an extra 75.00. I asKed him if I needed my pulley replaced as well and he said no that that won't be needed. Should I get it replaced anyway when they Do it Friday? Thanks in advance

Oh also for those who already got it done with them. Did they replace the seals? Front crankshaft seal and the camshaft seals?

Hate to bring this back from the dead but They are still running the deal. which i am sorry 450 wih the tensioner and labor is a amazing deal. Now if if could find someone to do a clutch for that much i would be in buisness.

only shops that dont care and owners who dont know,
fail to replace ALL the tensioners and roller/idler pullies!!
75-100 bucks= so cheap compared to the damage caused when they fail some months down the road and snap the timing belt!!!!
= you lose an engine!
slim to no chance the old ones will go another 100kmiles,,not a reality based concept

will lousy shops say part is fine now= so dont replace???, of course they will!
its not their problem when it blows up and they may sell you an engine!

There is nothing to inspect. If the waterpump leaks, you will see a trail of the coolant gunk leaking under your engine. You cannot inspect pulleys, wp and tensioner. You MUST replace them with the timing belt, otherwise risk losing your whole engine!

abouty 30 minutes to change it,, once you are finally there!

the ad is such bs, inspect?!?,thats code for techs to find problems= do you really think the wp will go another 100k..is this your first time on Earth?
a smart man replaces thermostat, all tensioners and idler/roller pullies, all belts,
and new rad and heater hoses are smart, the coolant is already drained,,

its even time to DIY cleaning battery cable connections and the small ground wires from block to frame

sidenote on shops- dealer techs hurry thru the list--not looking past the stated items in most cases
a Small private shop cares about making every dollar they can- on justified work
so they ck items known to wear out on that type car

Do you want to fix it all now for an extra 300 or come back and pay 500 or more later?
or did you want it to blow up in 7 months?,,,just past warranty from shop

read on here- search for tensioner failed = that motor is toast!!~

I have seen in person and read on here where a tech will look at tensioner- once removed from engine, spin it and say- no grease leak and it spins so its good to reuse

you have to think long term of another 10 years/100kmiles until alleged next replacement time, and remember how you drive the car,,high rpm wears out wp bearings,,and who doesnt use vtec ~now and then~

if you sell the car, its worth more with a job well done

its a come on for sure, and service writers may not explain the urgency/reasoning of replacement now
So it doesnt get done!

many service writers are not techs-retired/auto knowledge somehow,,
they are just salespeople, their auto training may be nonexistent or focused only on upsell, like flushes or other high profit jobs,
not on the cars, and 10 year old cars.. what to look for and suggest forget it

the product could be shoes for all they care,,but its your modus transporta,,pretty important to you!!

Still going by the way. Have 03 TL at 80K miles. I am just getting started into DIY- but the timing belt is not something am not comfortable yet. Tranny fluid change and brakes are on my todo list though.

You'd be surprised how easy it is to do the timing belt, wp, tensioner and pulleys. It's all ratcheting work. It's just tedious work, that's all. It would help immensely if you remove the strut tower brace for easy access to the bolts of the rear timing belt cover.

The DIY procedure listed here is spot on. If you follow it you can't go wrong. The timing marks must be aligned before you remove the old belt and after you install the new belt. The cam sprockets may move while installing the new belt, but move them back to their marks and try again. It took me several tries but it was easy.

The crank bolt is simple to break loose if you get the Honda pulley holder tool and a breaker bar to hold it in place. A very long 1/2" breaker bar (20 + inches) and 3ft+ pipe is required to break the bolt loose. Put some thick blankets or pillows on the floor in front of you when pushing down on the pipe. Put your weight on it and if you fall when the bolt breaks loose, at least your knees will hit the blankets instead of the ground.

Just called to see if they would sell the parts :P but no they wont.
I still asked them for their price on the parts and they gave me $398.62 for the belts power steering, AC compressor, timing belt, and water pump.
Is that a good price?

You need to replace all 5 parts for a proper timing belt service. You can get the Aisin TKH-001 kit containing the 5 oem parts for around $220. That's what I installed. I also got the Gates premium ac & ps belts for under $20 at rockauto. I even replaced the serpentine tensioner with a Gates one for $55.

+1 for Hamilton Honda. I drove out there from Long Island for that timing belt special. It took me about a hour and some change to get there they did a really good job, nice workers took about 5 hours but its a big job. If your there for a while like I was go to pancheros down the block in the shopping center, chill eat a burrito kill some time that place is bangin' . Overall good experience.

Last Saturday (Nov 10) I had Timing Belt Special from Hamilton Honda on my 2005 MDX. $389 for

Replace Timing Belt*
Replace Water Pump (coolant also)
Replace Drive Belts

I also simply ask them to replace tensioner for addtional $75 when droped the car at 7AM. picked up 12AM. I don't think the old timing belt on my MDX (70k miles) was bad but the MDX definitely ran better and smoother with the new belts.

when my TL needs it, I will definitely do it from them.

Another happy customer. I had my '06 3G (w/104K miles) done last Friday. Everyone there was extremely pleasant. Good customer service is clearly important to management and it shows. I dropped off my car at approx 8:30 AM. I had reserved a loaner car which was a '12 Honda Accord EX. I drove into Philadelphia to kill time (and get a cheesesteak). Stayed in Philly until about 2:00 PM when I decided to get back to NJ before rush hour starts. I gased up and returned the loaner around 3:30 PM with the intention od waiting there but the SW said my car had just finished. I also got the tensioner and I paid $514. I had changed the spark plugs myself about 2 weeks ago.

This is a good price by Hamilton Honda. I booked an appointment for next week since they are all booked up for the remainder of this week. However, I was given a quote of $489(without tensioner) stating that Acura service is more expensive. But I read the above comments otherwise...Does anyone have a similar experience...I would not wanna pay more for similar service...

I did for my Acura MDX for $389 a few weeks ago. print out the coupon and present it and they will honor the price. don't listen to the receptionist who made appointment. if you have doubt, call the advisor in advance (try Jonathan Chattin 609-528-2600 ext 2403 who did my MDX).

Dusting this one off because they're still running the $390 special. Now that a couple of years have gone by, am wondering if anyone who did this service back in 2012 can comment on how it held up? Any issues to be wary of? Also, did anyone get the plugs changed while having the timing belt done? Thanks

Yep they are still running it although I think they don't include the tensioner. So it is more like closer to $500 all said and done. I had mine done about 2 years ago /30 k miles and all is fine

Definitely replace ALL the tensioner and idler/roller pulleys at timing belt time
Ours have enough years on them to merit replacement
AND
WHEN one fails several months after t-belt install- which happens more than you think = toasted engine
