Things to look out for when purchasing 02-03 type-S

Hey, I'm brand new to this board, so if this info is posted somewhere else, please put me in the right direction.

I've done searches, and I keep seeing failed transmissions on the 5-speed auto's.

My family is looking to purchase an 02-03 TL type-S within the next month or so. Is there anything in particular I should be looking for/avoiding? Do the Type-S transmissions fit into the category of repeated failure? Also, would I be better off going with the 4-spd auto or does it encompass similar issues?

We're looking for cars with 80-100k KM, which would be under 62k miles.

Thanks for your help!

The 4sp(1999) isn't as probable to fail as the 5 speed (2000-2003 both premium and Type S models) but they all have had their woes. Yes, the Type S fits right into the catagorey.

Not all of the 03's are covered by the extended tranny warranty. Of course, that doesn't mean you can't repeatedly nag Acura until they do fix it should one such 03 fail under your ownership.
