Is there a Honda/Acura tech on here that knows our tranny problems?

I did an AV6 swap and need to pick the brain of a certified tech that knows the workings of our transmissions. Tranny was supposedly completely rebuilt with rebuilt torque converter but the left side end cover leaks (most likely gasket or warped cover) and 1st to 2nd shift chatters like the original. I replace the 3rd and 4th shift sensor and the 2nd/3rd shift solenoid checked out fine per the service manual. Could the old solenoid cause the chatter?

Try replacing the solenoid and do a 3x3 fluid change. There might be some grit in there from the rebuild. I would replace the end cover or figure out that leak for sure.

I know you have to drop the engine/trans assembly in order to get the end cover off but do you know exactly how it is performed? What do you have to remove?

When I did my swap I used the TL solenoids and pressure switches. My opinion is that anything electrical that is being plugged into the TL needs to be TL equipment. That is just my opinion. Also I would not trust a rebuilt. Hope u get it straightened out.

They are exactly the same. I researched the parts lists for Accord and TL they have the same part numbers on sensors and solenoids. As for a rebuilt there is nothing wrong with them compared to factory. There are upgrades for many of the internal parts that are better than factory. Even a rebuilt Torque Converter is better than factory.

They are not the same. Do ur homework. And rebuilds are not as good. That's why I mine has 20.000 miles on it since swap and urs don't!

You're both right; a low budget "rebuild" is virtually never as good as the new OEM transmission; that said, a top shelf "remanufacture" of a transmission is virtually always better than the unit which came with the car when it was new. The thing about the remanufacture components is they are upgraded in areas where the experience of the in-service failures are analyzed and taken into account.

Are you saying the solenoids are not the same between the AV6 and TL transmissions?

05rl02tl 01-12-2018 10:13 PM

My bad. The pressure switches are different. Sorry bout that. But I used all the TL solenoids off of tranny I replaced. Like I said I don't know if it makes a crap or not . That is just what I did.

marso 01-17-2018 09:16 PM

If you are speaking of the 3,4 pressure switches they are also the same. There are new part numbers so you may have looked at an old number. Accord/TL both use one black one tan. The color of the connector designates the pressure they activate. As for a rebuild unless the person used crap then no way in hell is the factory better than a rebuild. The new Sonnex parts and Raybestos clutch kits are a million times better than anything Honda makes.

Exactly. You get what you pay for. Anybody getting rebuild needs to make sure the trans is upgraded with Sonnex parts and Raysbestos clutch packs. Also check their TQ supplier. The main reason our trannys fail is the factory TQ is garbage.

Joke

Just because someone just joined does not meen that they just got their car. I've had my tls for 7 years. How long u had yours? And don't worry about me being on your thread . I like my cars to run. And yes. You are a insecure joke.

A design flaw inside the transmission makes the 3rd gear clutch pack starve from ATF and prematurely wears it out. The TC has nothing to do with out specific transmission issues, the design flaw affected ALL early 5 speed transmissions from Honda in the same manner.

Moderator hat on.
I didnīt see any attack that warranted this kind of comeback? please refrain from calling names

Below is his reply towards the top of the thread and he also inboxed me 3 times calling me insecure because I told him to stop being smartass in his replies or stay off my threads. Exactly the type of people that should be banned.

I heard about that but also saw this on a Honda/Acura specific transmission rebuild site that's why I mentioned the TC. My mistake, I misread the comment and it's actually the pressure valve.

"Honda/Acura models equipped with a four- or five-speed automatic transmission may overheat the converter. Insufficient flow to the TCC release circuit at low RPM allows the lockup piston to drag on the cover, generating heat.

This heat glazes the TCC lining and overheats the fluid. Eventually the slip rate cannot be controlled due to lining failure, resulting in code P0740. To prevent this problem, Sonnax offers a drop-in converter charge regulated pressure regulator valve 98892-04K.

This valve allows more flow to the converter and cooler circuits, increasing converter charge during low pump output conditions, and includes an internal checkball to prevent converter drain back when the vehicle is off. The same valve design will assist converter charge and TCC apply pressure during low-output/high-load demand situations."

You're 50? Start acting like it or you'll be retiring early from Acurazine.
