2000 TL top speed?

What's the top speed on the 2000 TL? Does it have a governor or a certain speed where it shuts down? I can't speed too badly and find out for myself for quite awhile because I've used up my one grace period shot at driving school to get my previous ticket off my record.

I hit 125 mph and I believe it was still below 4200rpm!! I could have gone faster, but the steering wheel started shaking.

the governor limits are at 149, but withough that you oculd go much, much faster. I've done 141-142 on my '99 back when it was fully stock, i have a good extra 40hp now but i havent tried again...my area got invaded by cops this past 5months!!!

I hit 135 and my car was still creeping up but it felt like wind resistance was very high. I had plenty more room on the tach but it didn't feel like I could get much more out of it.

News for all those who want to go fast...Apparently a tl-p ('99 for sure, 00 and 01, prob same) doesnt have a governor, read my thread as i did 153 but too bad for the tl-s you guys are limited at 147...

Oh, remember your stock rubber is v-rated = 149mph, meaning if you go over for too long = blown tire which = death. Unless you got higher rated rubber, do as you please and try not to die. Drive safely

I hit precisely 147 on the speedometer and the governor killed the fun.

The car felt very stable and sure-footed at that speed, and my friend who was with me commented on how smooth the car felt. If it hadn't been for the speedometer and the scenery blowing by us at 147 mph, I could've been mistaken for like 100-110ish. Such a smooth car.

^^ tru, like i said in my thread. i took about 2miles to reach 150 and another half-a-miles to reach 153.

but IF you wanna beat a tl-s you gotta be modded...you might not even make it over 140...AND if you're modded enough to reach 150s, you'll sure as hell would be able to take on a tl-s at any speed.

think about it.

Wow, I really wasn't aware that my '02 TL would be able to hit 140+. I'm impressed......I actually thought there'd be a governor shutting it down around 130.

Technically the 2nd gens go as fast as how you make them lol. I don't think there's a governor so with some decent bolt on's and maybe a super-charger they can crack 160mph easy with the only limiting factor being the gearing of the transmission.

Yup I can go +160mph in mine but holy actual f*** the car feels wobbly as hell, clearly beyond what the chassis is capable of.

I've only ever been brave enough to take mine up through 124mph ish - had to slow back down because I was worried my baby would ACTUALLY rattle loose that time! Of course mine's also a bit beat up, and everyone else here has beat that record :P

My Record was 200km/h and I noticed the shakes too but the only reason I backed off was because the tank was on E and I didn't want to be stuck on the hwy XD It's amazing how much a difference a few more spot welds and high strength steel in modern cars makes.

I am afraid to find out...once I hit 100 MPH and my hands gripped the steering wheel so tight that my knuckles turned white.

i've only taken mine up to 120 mph, but, like everyone else said, I was gripping the steering wheel for dear life since it was so shaky!

Not exactly sure what you're getting at; most passenger car tires these days are at least "H" rated which is good for something like 128 mph; beyond that most other tires are good for 150.

Preach it! my tires are Z rated or better which is somewhat overkill as its probably once in a lifetime the TL will reach those speeds..
