Steering wheel cover -- '02 TL, parchment interior

The leather on the steering wheel of my '02 TL is in bad shape.

i'm Hoping to find a decent-quality aftermarket lace-on cover that will match or complement the original.

the car has parchment interior, so the wheel leather is a dark greenish-gray (at least to my eyes).

Any ideas? Google searches so far have come up dry.

thanks in advance!

FWIW: You may want to check out the car-parts.com web site. Cars operated in less sunny states to your north, "ie" Washington and Oregon, tend to suffer considerably less sun and heat related deterioration than sunny warm climate cars. You could buy a nice OEM steering wheel for around $35.00 plus shipping. Changing the entire wheel is fairly easy, and would take a lot less time than installing, for example a hand laced wheelskin type leather cover, which sells for around $60.00 alone. I have found most salvage yards on car-part.com are user friendly and willing to send detailed close-up pics., of the part in question.

I have a new MDX wheel that fits our cars. The color is slightly off from the airbag but you could probably paint the airbag to match. I installed it but ended up going with a wood grain wheel 2 weeks later. Pictures below are when I had it in my car but with different lighting. $75 shipped. PM me if interested

Thanks to both of you -- great ideas.

Iggy- I'll PM you if I decide to go that route.

Best wishes to all!

Just in case somebody else reads this someday...

i was unable to locate a good used wheel. All I found had leather as bad as mine.

my local Indy shop was unable to locate one either.

i was tempted by Iggy's offer to buy his surplus wheel, but My shop wouldn't install any wheel that wasn't an Acura wheel made for my year/model due to liability, so I passed. Probably could have done the swap myself, but decided not to.

so I bought a Wheelskins charcoal cover and installed it myself. The color doesn't match, but it is neutral enough that it looks ok. It took me a couple hours to install, and it feels really good. So overall I'm happy with it.

i was pleased that there was enough thread in the kit to do the two-needle "baseball" stitch although I had to borrow a second needle from a friend.

Nice! Definitely post pics.
I solved the issue on my end by taking a wheel from a newer MDX that had the weird wood-pattern cover like the console trim in our TL's.

I'm interested to see the result as well. I have an OEM Black Wood Grain wheel, with bad leather, that I'm trying to do something with.

I would have loved to have done it right, with a replacement wheel. And maybe I will, someday.

But for $60 and a couple hours of my time, the wheel skin option was good enough for now.

Thank you for the pic., thender, Has to look, and feel much better than what you had. I've done WheelSkins in the past, and installing one, is no easy task.

yes, the original leather had gotten pretty bad.

The wheelskins cover feels wonderful, and looks better too, although not nearly as nice as the original.

Installation took 2-1/2 hours, although I could do it again a lot faster.

But overall I'm pleased, and would recommend the wheelskins product to anyone.
