Yea and worst after a highway drive and on to traffic.
Its trying to go into lockup mode to get better mpg.
Sometimes I put it in D5 after a U-turn immediately I would feel the shudder and look on the dash to realize its on D5, right away I put it on D4 and it goes away. For traffic situation use D4 and high speed D5.

I'm not sure why setting it to D4 helps since I never get up to 5th gear in stop and go driving any ways but it works.. for now.
I knew I wasn't alone. check out my last post about this.

Confirmed: I've noticed that when I'm driving in town or in stop-and-go traffic, putting it in D4 seems to eliminate the shudder I'd get in 3rd gear.

It does typically do the trick. Mine was doing the shudder thing as well at low speeds/rpms. I added a tube of Lubegard red about 10k miles ago and it eliminated the shudder.

My fluid is nice and clear, like fruit punch, and it's between the two dots. I'm still going to do a 3x3 drain and fill and replace the ATF filter sometime soon though. I believe there's also some external solenoids I can can clean as well.

Perhaps try a new pressure switch for those gears.

I have tried it all and nothing works, probably some valves sticking in the valve body which is something thats only touched when a rebuild is taking place.

I havent tried synthetic ATF so that would be the last shot since Im due for a drain and fill.

I know I am starting to sound like I must work for the company but I would suggest trying the lubegard. I don't really buy into the snake oil additives but this one has made me believe so far. I had low speed shuddering that has been gone for the last 10k miles or so. It took maybe 500 or so miles to slowly work in but it worked. It only costs about $8 for a tube and is worthy the try I feel.

Yea I kind of thought that lol. I have nothing to loose and willing to trying it out, Didn't see it in a local advance auto parts where did you purchase yours ?

If anything this tranny blows up I have all the tools and knowledge to rebuild it.

What kind of fluid is presently in the tranny ?
Honda's newer "DW1" fluid is synthetic based. What were ya thinking of replacing the old fluid with ?

It has Dw1, was thinking of putting Amsoil regular stuff, not racing.

First impression

So I just put the lubeGuard Instant shudder fixx and I have to say Im amazed, the trans is much more tolerable in traffic none of that back and forth feeling.
Also the trans now actually decelerates the car, unlike before it just wanted to keep going forward.
Thanks for the suggestion MarcDavidoff and yes they did have it at advance auto I guess I didn't do research at first to see how its presented on the counter, Theres so many additive bottles there.

Awesome! Glad to hear you have experienced some immediate results. Glad you gave it try. I don't think it can hurt anything- only help if anything which it seems it has already so that is cool. I think you may find it helps further after a few hundred more miles.
Good to know it is at advance auto. Maybe they just started carrying it.

I believe lubegard is the only transmission additive that has actually been recommended by any O.E. manufacturers. It's definitely not snake oil.

Just to update this thread, I have not done any more work on the car yet the problem seems to be gradually going away. Now and then I'll have some funny clunks that I am almost certain are the torque converter locking up. I can only assume that there may have been some gunk in there that has been working its way out since I did the drain & flush and replaced the filter. I may do a fourth drain & flush because when I did the third one the fluid drained out was still pretty dark.

I may also check the torque converter lockup solenoid, but I haven't taken a close look at it before so I'm not sure how hard it is to reach & remove.

Supergreg- thanks for the update. Interesting yours has been getting better but most likely due to your drain and fills. Wonder how long it will hold out before coming back. My thread here https://acurazine.com/forums/problem...-886429/page2/
Is pretty identical to your issue and some others who have chimed in. The lubegard really helped with any shudder I was having for about 15k miles. Then I did a couple of drain and fills and added another tube of lubegard. Was all good for about 2k miles. Took a long trip all was fine.. Then next time out it was stumbling, shuddering, whatever while in gear (not slipping) at low rpms. Like you say, higher rpms it goes away; D4 and it goes away. Starting to line up an AV6 swap but wondering how long this D4 thing can work? Anyone been doing the D4 trick for an extended amount of time?

Yeah, if ya still like the car and are willing to invest the money into replacing the old tranny with an "AV6" ......source the donor and pamper the existing tranny until it decides to take a dump. Ya never really know
when the old tranny's are gonna take a shit. It's a roll of the dice !!! Do ya feel lucky ?

Yeah true..no matter how nice you treat them with fluid changes and careful driving habits they will still turn on you in a moments notice.
I can still take my 23 year old gsr out and wail on it all day if I like and it keeps asking for more.
So far the best I have found locally is a 72k mile AV6 for $975. Most others are more $$ or maybe a $100-200 less but over 100k miles. I'll see, maybe wait until the new year or just grab this one now...

Hey Supergreg, any updates? Just curious if you had tried anything new or if the symptoms are the same? My issue still persists but I have been driving in D4 unless I get on the highway above 60 and then I pop it in D5 and it is fine at that speed. But it will remind me quickly once I get back to lower speeds and the rpms jump around. Still believe it is the torque converter clutch
