Service Manual, where are ya buddy?

Old Threads on this topic had posting dates of 2002, 2004, and 2005 so i am starting a new one.

I need the full service shop manual for a 1999 acura 3.2 tl. Helminc.com has it, part # 61S0K04. There are others on the site, but the aforementioned part number is the one which covers 99-03 tl's including the tl-s, so it's the one i want.

The problem is that when i add it to the cart it says the following which makes me dissatisfied:

"This manual is a digital reprint of the original publication. It is possible that this item will be in loose-leaf format, if so, a binder will be included. Any wiring diagrams in the original shop/service manual are NOT reproduceable and are no longer available."

I don't care about their reasons for not including wiring diagrams because it is a reproduction (infingement reasons or otherwise), I just want the FULL original thing as well as the supplements to the manual (which they do include).

Can anyone help me?

I was in a low speed t-bone accident and want to do some other work while i'm at it. Much like everyone else here, i'm a tinkering s.o.b.

More questions to add. I know that there are several versions of the service and electrical manuals for our vehicle from helminc.com, each subsequent one adding additional info for the newer year vehicles. For example part # 61S0K01EL (Electrical Troubleshooting Manual) has the electrical system for 99-00 tl's, and then part # 61S0K04EL has the electrical system for 99-03 tl's.

That obviously holds true for the service manuals as well. But in addition to that, the service manuals have "supplemental" info that may contain corrections/changes and stuff.

My question is, do the electrical troubleshooting manuals also have supplemental info that make corrections/changes? I do not see such items on helminc.com or auto-repair-manual.com, so i am assuming that there are none.

I'm asking because I purchased the 99-00 ETM (part # 61S0K01EL) off of ebay without knowing about the newer manual (part # 61S0K04EL) and am debating whether to buy it (the newer one).

HELMINC.COM is where I got mine. $100.00 for the whole manual which includes 3 seperate volumes. Looks like the exact same thing Acura uses.

1) About how long ago did you purchase your copy?

2) Does it include wiring diagrams and such that they state are excluded (when you add it to the shopping cart)?

I will definitely try calling them again. They were already closed when i called last night.

For whatever reason I've seen them on Ebay for 3rd gen. & 1st gen. but only once did I see one for 2nd gen. model. Should have bid higher on it when it was listed...

I ordered mine about 1.5 weeks ago, recieved it last Weds. Im pretty sure I saw a complete wiring diagram, it looked pretty extensive. Only flipped through it breifly, when I get home later I'll check just to make sure. It has exploded views of pretty much every assembeled (sp) part on the car so im sure all your wiring needs can be found aswell.

sorry to bring this thread back from the dead but...

cominfromafar: did you get the manual? If so, was it the reprint crap in the binder? or was it the original?

I want to get the original with all the wiring and electrical info... anyone know if it's included? I'll probably call them, but I just thought one of you guys might know already.

Thanks!

drummr8: I bought the manual from Helm back in September of this year. See my thread on the stuff I bought; you only need 61S0K04.

It came in three thick-ass books (volumes) & wasn't binder-based. Half of one volume is dedicated to the transmission. Problem is is that the volumes are continuous as in content resumes from the last page of volume A on the first page of volume B. I also wish there were more disassembly instructions; some stuff is just "mentioned" in the component location diagram but doesn't say how to remove it. Still a good buy though.

Yeah, I saw your thread when I did a forum search... I just wanted to make sure I wasn't going to get shafted with the loose leaf stuff. I guess I'll call and make sure I'm getting the actual books.

Thanks for the info.

That's because it is a lot more popular "tuner" car. Do some searching.. there are some out there. Someone made a thread not too long ago about it.

I really wanted to know if there is anyone who purchased it recently (like in the last month or somethin)... I just called and they said it will be looseleaf paper in a binder
(but then again it was some foreign lady and I'm not sure if she understood what I was asking... I also don't think she knew for sure what it was going to be--Gotta love outsourcing!)

I want the actual books!!!

This is what i got around sept./oct. time. It was $95 + $6.95 S&H.

It is a very very good manual. The best that there is i'd say. Very well detailed. I bought the Chilton manual thinking it was good enough, but i was wrong.

Note that this manual will not include things such how to completely take apart stuff like the body (it's damn close). You would have to get the body manual for that. This will however give you all the steps that you need to repair the car, such as dismantling/troubleshooting procedures. If part of that includes taking off a kick panel, fender, etc. or something, it will show you that. This manual removes a whole lot of "stupid" that could occur, but common sense is still needed in any case of course...

repair manual question

hi how you doing?
I was wondering if you ever found a repair manual you are comfortable with.
I just bought the Haynes repair manual for $21.00 for 99-2003 tl's. oh yea mine is a 3.2 2003 tl. please let me know of your luck with that search. when I visited helminc, I saw a manual there and like you I was disappointed to read that it would be missing some very usfull information.
hope you can help thanks!

each manual is different.. they are all helpful and may offer info that the others do not.. haynes is a good company. if you feel or think that its inferior to other brands.. i would consider switching manual's..

and my reference to your name was only trying to be helpful.. didnt want you to get spammed to high hell.. and changing it now wouldnt really affect you, since your a new user

Haynes manual....

IMHO....I would think the Haynes manual would be a good enough match for the technical expertise of about 75% of us on this board and is only $25 compared to $100 for the Helms.

I have the 99' TL shop manual, but I'm trying to "upgrade" shall we say since I own a 2001 and plan on working with some of the conversions that lots of us 2gers are interested in. I cannot find the $100.00 shop service manual. I found a $73.00 one, but it doesn't sound right.

Any assistance is appreciated.

on ebay I found a pdf format repair manual 99-03 for under $25.00
read the description and play the demo I think it is worth the $$$
plus another guy here said it resembles the helms manual.
I thought that guy selling on ebay has a shop repair manual scanned and saved it as pdf file with search capability.

here is the search criteria:

ACURA TL 99-03 Service Repair Manual ( 99 00 01 02 03 )

fsttyms1 did you take a look at the ebay pdf manual I was talking about? it looked like the helms manual to another guy I was chating with. if you bought from helm can you take a look and see if it is.
if that is the same one people are buying from helms it is a heck of a deal for under $25.00 thanks!

Just got mine today. It was $73.00 + $6.95 S&H and it's the same as shown above with the 3 volumes. Looks like the price dropped from before.

so after messing with my car today, im gonna go ahead and bump this thread..

i checked the helms website and they dont even have a full service manual listed to purchase.. im just curious to see if anyone has purchased one recently from them and what kind you received..

i also did see the auction that the other guy was talking about.. its 21.99 on ebay and after watching the demo, it looks exactly like a .pdf of the helms and im tempted to go ahead and get it.. it also seems to be lacking the full wiring diagram though..

anyways.. just throwing it out there to get some more recent updates.. and hell, if anyone on here has a FULL .pdf version they can send me, i can drop you some cash in your paypal account..
