rpm's go up and down when in park?

ugggh another problem! recently my car started making a strange noise when i put it in park after driving. its like i lightly rev the engine constantly. it seems to rev the engine to about 2200 rpm's and then back down then 2200 rpm's then back down again and it does this constantly untill i turn off the engine. i had someone tell me it could be a sensor and it needs to be cleaned but i dont know exactly what im looking for. and could this be anything other than a sensor? all comments appreciated, thank you acurazine!

IACV valve. Pull the throttle body off and then IACV valve and give it a good cleaning. While the throttle body is off clean if it is gunked up. Finally lube the TB plate hinges and clean and lube the throttle springs.

Cost: Time and ten bucks for TB cleaner and lube.

^That. Common Honda/Acura issue, but nothing a good cleaning can't fix.

clean the entire intake manifold egr port and path system
plus the cleaning of the throttle body with the IACV= Idle Air Control Valve is located inside on bottem
Its a rod with a slit that clogs up- the entire thing rotates in a barrel slot- remove rod and clean both parts
deep creep cleans throttle air plate and leaves behind a lube on the hinges

get an IACV COVER GASKET just in case it tears
get 2 intake/TB spacer gaskets, one for each side of spacer

I used to own a 2004 Chevy Impala and had a bit of RPM fluctuations. I replaced the IAC valve (it was stuck partially open) and I cleaned the throttle body. Problem solved instantly. Different car, I know, but likely the fix mentioned above should fix it.

you can replace the rod but its a simple cleaning once you reach it

Also specific the TL is a problem with egr passage and ports clogging up
good to do these jobs together as crud is a known problem
