Burning/melting plastic AC smell today - now no cold/hot air blows out

Today I noticed my AC had a Burning/melting plastic smell today, it was much worse on the AC vs Heat. Cold/Hot air was working though and now a few hours later no air is coming out at all and when I switch the temp gauge from cold/hot I hear what sounds like leather creaking with no result. Did my compressor just go out on me? Is my car still safe to drive as I trip planned for tomorrow for the next 7 days, 2 hour drive each way.

Thanks!

Check your blower and blower resistor under the glove box.

Isn’t there a known issue with a connector melting around the blower motor somewhere I thought I read about?

yes - these go bad frequently. Mine did (along with the blower itself) - it's a relatively easy fix. The hardest part is pulling out the trim to get to the motor

If you go a step further and replace your bad blower motor sub harness like I did, then it's even more difficult, but worth it.

when mine went it took 6 inches of the harness with it. Made the climate control stop working also. It happens.
