Angry Recall? Product Update : Timing Belt Tensioner

Is this a RECALL on my baby?? I got it today in the mail.

Dear Acura Owner:

We are sending this letter to notify you of a potential problem with your vehicle.

What is the problem?
Due to a manufacturing problem, the timing belt tensioner in your vehicle's engine can lose its old. If enough oil is lost, the timing belt loosens and causes engine noise.

What should you do?
Call any authorized Acura automobile dealer, and make an appointment to have your vehicle updated. The dealer will replace the timing belt tensioner. This work will be done FREE OF CHARGE. Please plan to leave your vehicle all day to allow the dealer flexibility in scheduling.

Blah Blah Blah....so I'm assuming this is the nice way to state i HAVE a PROBLEM?????????? It says something about 2002-2003 3.2TL, 2002-2003 3.2CL and 2002 MDX. They fixed the 2003 MDX before manufacturing???

All I know is this is a PAIN. Now I'll have to figure out when to give Acura my baby. And I better get a loaner cause I have work and school and what not. BLAH.

Anyone else get this?!!
Kate

yup it's a recall. Many manufacturers dislike using the word "recall" because it's another way of saying "Our moron mechanics f*cked up while builiding your vehicle, and now we must inconvenience you in order to fix the problem". So instead, they just say there is a potential "issue" with your car that we need to look further into to verify a hazard in your vehicle. I wouldn't worry, bring it too acura and they'll help you out.

take care.

Sounds like a RECALL , smells like a RECALL.... god damn.... its a "potential problem" - LOL

BTW:

How do you guys find the dealer service ? Do you like it ? Is there usually a lot of problems with getting a loaner ? What do you think of the service ? I am curious - I just got my TL, and I already have a couple of issues with it... ?

Yea I go to Smithtown Acura - the only prob with it is that it is SO far out east - like a 45 min ride from my house!!!! But I know the owner - I'm his girl - he hooks me up. My first loaner was an 03 TLS and my second was an 03 rsx. Maybe I'll get a TSX this time...it's just a matter of finding the TIME to bring it in for the day. Grrrr.....................!

Hey Kateala, what type of noise does the engine make if the tensioner is bad?

The recall notice says the engine can “stall”. What it doesn’t say is that the pistons will take out the valves, and maybe the heads, and you have a mega-buck repair.

Meanwhile, far more dangerous than a stall is the potential at
http://www.acura-tl.com/forum/showth...threadid=63778

Let’s see if this becomes a recall.
