Rear Subframe

Hey guys, I'm going to be replacing my rear subframe. There was a giant axle on the highway, and I couldn't clear it. It tore through my entire undercarriage, and the shop said I needed a new rear subframe for about $1100. The rest was just scratches.

I was looking up the TL-P parts at:
http://www.acuraoemparts.com/delray/...All&vinsrch=no

Here is the TL-S page:
http://www.acuraoemparts.com/delray/...All&vinsrch=no

I noticed there are different parts for the TL-P and the TL-S. The price is the same, but the part number is different. Do you think the TL-S part will bolt onto my TL-P?

Is there any advantage of the TL-S frame vs the TL-P? Or just fitment?

I wouldn't try it. The pictures look the same but they are different dimensions and weight.

PJ is right. you should buy what is required for your car. the same went for me when I had to replace the sub frame.. If your not sure just call that would be your best bet or go to your local Acura dealership and check with the parts dept.

So I'm getting my car repaired at a body shop that works directly with a dealership. I'm going to have the body work done at the body shop obviously, but I don't know about the mechanical work.

They said that replacing the frames would be mechanical work. Should I have it done at the body shop for their mechanic rate, or just get it done at the dealership.

Is replacing the frame something that requires more experience, or just a straightforward process?

Are you using insurance? Those prices are horrible. You can get a used OEM subframe for $200

Yes, insurance is covering the damage. That $1100 quotes was a different shop, who was including labor as well.

My current estimate is $3100 to replace the front cross beam, the rear subframe, and the front bumper. (They also said they will get a new oem front lip, duno how he's gonna do that.)

They might also replace my PS rack. They put some sealant on it to cover the damage, but I'm going to tell them to replace it. I just don't want the estimate to go over $4k, to avoid totaling the car.

So should I just trust them with replacing the subframe, or tell them to take it to the dealer?

wow thats some major damage! I would see if your adjuster can locate a used subframe and crossbeam in your area, it will bring that estimate down significantly so you wont have to worry bout total loss. Any pics?

Yea, apparently they did find used parts. Something along the lines of "Like Quality and Fitment" which includes used parts form salvage vehicles.

The weird thing is that they also got a new front underspoiler. I asked him about it, and they said they just got an OEM one that was unpainted. As far as I know, they only sell pre-painted ones. Even then, they are hard to find.

Should I look into it? I don't want them to replace my OEM lip kit with an aftermarket piece.

hell yeah, I'd drill him for where he got it from. As long as its not fiberglass, I think everyone on here would like a good source for a brand new front lip!
