Rear Driver side splash shield Melted hole?

Hi Guys,

Has anyone else seen this? (refer to jpeg) I have no idea how there is a melted hole on this splash shield and was wondering if I will need to replace the splash shield or if I can just leave it as is. Not sure if the pipe that is visible is from the gas tank so I thought I'd ask just to in the safe side. Thanks.

Not sure how that got melted. Have you ever had rearsuspension work done? I would inspect the pies behind it and if they look good forget about it.

Maybe a glob of hot sticky tar? very strange unless it was done on accident/purpose by a mechanic.

No rear suspension work done recently. Did my rear brakes about a few months ago myself and that's all for that area. I'll remove the splash shield and take a look if anything behind it is damaged just in case. Thanks.

Haven't had any mechanics look at my car in quite some time. When I did the rear brakes a few months ago, the melted hole was not present. "Glob of hot sticky tar" sounds more reasonable. Thanks.

Must have been something hot on the road that got tossed up and out.

Nothing to worry about.
