Post Race against Lexus tonight

Had my first straight line race tonight. The car was a Lexus GS300 or 400. He got the jump on me, but I managed to win. He edged in behind me @ approx. 70mph. This all occurred in a short 2 lane space merging into one lane. By the time we got to the single lane I had him beat. My wife was in the car and thought the entire incident was pretty amusing. What's the 0-60 of the GS300? I'm highly doubtful that the car was a GS400, because that would have totally blown me away.

Anyone else have any Lexus race stories?

it must have been a GS300. You would have gotten yourself killed if you raced with a 400.

The drag wasn't that daredevil.

Just checked GS300 0-60 time. 7.6. We've got it beat.

Wassup Speed.....I only have a few performance mods on my car which probably don't make much difference(check signature). The Lex was on my ass while we were mergin' onto the highway so that's when we decided to play. I knew the guy wanted to race coz he was totally tailgatin' me. Man these IS300 people are as bad as riced out civic people. I didn't blow him out but I pulled away from slowly and next thing you know i was a good 3-4 car lengths ahead of him before I exited. Don't get me wrong, that car is hot. I just don't know what all the hype is about after my significant larger sedan gave it to him.

Well, some of you probably already seen my Lexus story. DAMN! It was a freakin ES300 and I couldn't pull away. Sad...

My father-in-law has an IS300. I had a chance to drive it and compare it to my TL. The IS300 seems quick but it could be due to the fact that it is a smaller car. However, my TL feels like it pulls a lot harder and continues to pull throughout... just an informal observation.

GS300 will not win a TL for any reason, especially from 0-60mph. Cause I had a friend got GS300 (fix up), and no matter how many times we try, he never can win me from 0-60mph.

yeap, we should beat the GS300 any time, but will be killed by the GS400. I think that we can beat the IS300 since they're not that fast. Look at the data, we should have them easily.

If I'm not mistaken, the IS300 has a 0-60 time of 7.1 seconds. That is close to the 1999 TLs and a little slower than the 2000+ TLs. I also believe that the 3 series BMWs are somewhere around the same 0-60 time (CL-S vs. 328Ci article in Motor Trend).

Red face

hi people. new to this board, and i want to share my experiences with you guys.

i am a student at university of california Irvine, studying bio sci. there are many TLs, GS400s, GS300s, and IS300s. Mmst of the time i can beat IS300s in close races. people in my school likes to drive fast and race. Only bad experiences I've had were with 3 GSs. there's a silver GS400, a black GS300, and a silver GS300.

the GS400 is too fast for me. the black GS300 had greddy exhaust and filter i think, from the sound. it was a close race on a long irvine street, but i was pulled away after going around 85 on local. the exhaust was so obnoxious and irritating. that asian kid slowed down at the light, rolled down his window, and said i "good race." i think that's just bull.

the silver GS300 i saw many times, around school and on 73 freewya. first time i saw it going pass by me really fast on 73south, followed by a silver z3. they must be doing 100 at least. maybe even 110 or soemthing. stopped at the freeway exit, it was a asian male in the gs and a caucasian male in a M-roadster. at the 2nd green light i tried to race them (i was in the middle lane), but the GS was pretty fast and was ahead of me by 1/2 a car for a while, and then pulled away.

those people had some guts going around 80 to 90 miles per hour inside campus. i must say that GS300s might be all modified inside, but no exhaust or anything. lots of stickers. must be sleeper or anything. but from what i've heard, no turbo for GS400s and GS300s. what do you guys think?

welcome to the board. UCI certainly has tons of asian racers/ricers around the campus and it's certainly possible to do 70 mph on campus since your school is so big! For that silver GD300 i would say it's a sleeper. A 2000 TL can beat a stock GS300 easily. I am no big fan of GS's so i don't know what could have been inside his hood.

UW TL:

i heard from one of my bio classmate who drives a GS400 that the silver GS300 only has a filter and TRD springs. he has a big blitz sticker on the hood so it might be a biltz filter or something. but he said definitely not a sleeper, just alittle faster than normal GS300. must be all the downforce from the spoiler and the front bodykit ha ha.

even with my exhaust, i still cant beat that GS300? i will talk to my friend to see if i can get to know that guy and check his car out or something. maybe he has nos?

yes there are many modified cars in my school. i've seen many turbo integras and civics around, with loud blow off valves. it is fun driving around the campus. it is like a big import show event everyday ha ha ha ha!

why TL's can't kill GS400? 3.8TL kills GS400 easily.

Damn a 2 year old post.

Either way, we should have no problem with the gs300 or is300. Just watch out for the gs400.

BTW, that 3.8 TL was a good one.

Thumbs up Input.....

Yes, a TL-S will defeat a GS3. A TL-p vs a GS3 is a good race, either one can win. A TL-S will beat an IS auto or manual. A TL-P vs the IS will also be a good race.

There are no turbos for the GS 400, only superchargers. There are turbos for the GS 300 though I have not seen one. Most people turbo the SC 300 (which I hae seen).

All IS people are not bad, I could say the same thing about all the TL owners I have beaten. It's the driver, not the car.

The IS is not that slow. It is quite comparable to all TL's except the Type S.
I was racing my buddy a few empty blocks on wet roads this weekend. Quite even between the cars. He got a faster start than me but maybe by half a car lenght. We stopped once I hit about 2 gear redline...and he saw how I really caught up beside him.
He misses his old school prelude and still admires Honda engines. He says our car is damn fast for a large car. I would say straight line, its a tossup between the 2.

I've been looking out for a GS400 for months now, but little luck around here. Lots of GS300 and IS300 and they were pretty easy. Of the few GS400s I saw most were social status drivers and a couple that were not stock. I'm looking for a pure stock so I can see just how fast they are.

In the meantime IS300s, 300is, Z28s,etc will have to do, :P
