My aftermarket alarm (prestige from audiovox) will not unlock the doors/ disarm. And it will not let me start the car when I unlock the doors manually. I unplugged the battery to make it stop but this problem makes no sense

The battery in the remote is fine, I know this because the light on the remote was lighting up when I pressed buttons.

Anyone know how to fix this? My car is stuck at starbucks and I leave in the morning to go out of state

 

Well if your car is at starbuxs, I suggest you to get it towed to your house first. Do you have a kill switch enabled?

 

^ I don't know anything about where a kill switch would be since the previous owner installed the alarm. When installing my fogs, my friend and I never saw any switch or "brains" of the alarm under the dash

 

Most alarms will let you shut them off manually by turning the key all the way to the on position (when all the dash warning lights turn on) and then pressing or flipping the valet switch. This is a backup just in case the remote stops working or is lost.

 

Turns out the remote wasn't working correctly so they had to reprogram it or something. 42 dollars just for that :/
