Power Steering Pump Replacement Problems
Replaced my PS Pump on my 99 on Friday morning. Got a remanufactored unit Rock Auto rebuilt by Cardone. After replacing, I jacked up front end, and turned wheel back and forth for about 15 minutes. Kinda quieted down somewhat. Drove it for last 3 days, and it started off very quiet, but after about 15 minutes of driving gets loud again. Moaning and whining, usual sound when there is air in the system. Let car sit, and starts up and drives quiet for a while, then gets loud again.
Any ideas why air is still getting into pump? Im praying it's not a bad unit I got, because I ordered it online, and would hate having to ship it back and have to wait for a new one.

to properly burp the system:
place a piece of cardboard under each front tire- reduces surface friction- this is the acura method
start car and slowly turn steering full lock to one side then all the way to the other.
repeat as needed, cking fuid level,,best to have someone turning wheel as you observe res bottle level and whats happening
air leaks- you installed all new rubber orings and correct type hose clamps?
Belt tension- must be looser than most belts you have ever seen, or wears out the pump bearing fast
ck all your work - look for fluid leaks = air can get in too
fluid level should be towards the full mark,,leaving some room for all the flow that occurs

Fluid level is high.
I replaced new o-rings that came with pump. Hose clamp is stock factory one. Wonder if it's old and I should put a new one on?
Im also considering draining system and replacing with factory fluid.

its not on honda fluid???
you didnt flush the rack out with new pump??
level needs to be below the full mark
operation above that can cause air bubbles-frothing to form in the fluid
other possible air leak-- rack end seal- inside the rubber boot- if fluid present seal is bad

You HAVE to use the Honda fluid -generics cause leaks, noise and the thicker viscosity collapses the fine filter at the base of the reservoir. After installing a rebuilt replacement pump I did not use factory fluid. I had every problem listed above. I replaced the reservoir and flushed 3 bottles of Acura fluid and the noise, leak and air in the fluid is gone.

OK..I replaced the inlet O-ring with the factory one, flushed all the old fluid out and replaced with Acura Fluid, and changed the hose clamps on inlet pipe too. All quiet now. Thanks for the help guys!
