Power Steering pressure switch
I am looking to replace the power steering pressure switch on my daughters 2002 acura TL. I've looked at the location of the pressure switch and looks like it's a pretty tight space, do i need to remove the entire feed line in order to replace the switch? I hope i don't have to remove the feed line. I would appreciate any feed back if any one has replaced this in the past, size of wrench etc.
Thanks. |
is there a reason you're wanting to replace it?

thoiboi ,
My Daughters steering wheel is hard to turn, i've read that sometimes this is normal but i've had lots of Acuras and never had one this stiff before. I've flush/changed the steering fluid and no change. I am read that changing the Steering pump o-rings has help others ( i have o-rings coming, so i will replacing them) but i am not sure how an o ring can make a difference, i guess there is some leak on the top where the feed line comes in. Others have mentioned that the Steering pump pressure switch can be the issue. I am trying other things before i replace the steering pump. Thank you for the reply. |
If you have air in the system, it will be hard to turn. That's why the o-ring is suggested. I have yet to see a case when the pressure switch fixes the problem. If you've drained and refilled the PS fluid (with OEM HOnda/Acura fluid) and it's still not working, replace the o-ring. If that doesn't fix it, that means the pump needs to be replaced.

ok, thanks for the explanation on why replacing the o-ring would work. There is two o-rings, one coming in and out. It would probably be best to replace both?
Hopefully the o-ring fixes the issue because it looks like a steering pump is expensive. If i need a new pump where would you recommend i get one from? new, reman? Thanks. |
Inlet should suffice but it's really cheap peace of mind to do both

PS switch just raises the idle a bit when the PS rack is under load at low speeds. Not gonna fix anything.
I would just buy a used pump from eBay. Rebuilding the pump has not been the most successful option in my experience. |
Karanx7 thanks for the reply, i will replace the o-rings this weekend if that doesn't help i will get a use power steering pump off ebay.

I replaced both feed and out seals and streeing wheels still seemed hard to turn. Is there a way to test a used power steering wheel before installing it?

What's a power steering wheel?

ha ha my bad power steering pump.

Is the Power Steering pump in a 2003 the same as one in the 2002 TL's?
