Popping through the intake

I have another issue that I can't figure out. Sometimes the engine has multiple low tone backfires through the intake like a string of firecrackers then other times it doesn't. There are no codes and the engine is as smooth as silk whether popping or not. Idle is perfect, no overheating. No problems of any kind except the intermittent popping. Any clues?

Check the engine filter air box for leaks between the lid and the box.. If you have a leak it will sound like popping, Confirm this by pushing the lid with your hands and hear if the popping goes away.

Do you have an aftermarket IACV installed or is it OEM?

Buy OEM, or clean your old one. As you can tell from the linked post - if you bought aftermarket even from usual reputable brands from Rockauto, it's a sensitive system. While the sound is probably nothing and the car will run fine... it is annoying.

That was the problem. I bought a new one from Acura. Not cheap. I wonder what the popping is? Maybe the aftermarket valves make the idle too lean?
