Hello everyone!!

Ok so I have a small engine oil leak, had it checked out and was told that its the rear main seal. The leak is so little, when I clean the oil off, it takes almost 5 days to see a drip on the drive way.

Reading some threads on this forum, I went out and bought a PCV Valve ( its cheap and it might be a fix). Shaked the new one and can hear the ball, blew through it and only blows through one side. So everything is set but Im a noob when it comes to finding part location.

Can anyone tell me where the PCV Valve is located, If someone can get a picture of it or maybe a diagram that would be awsome.

I took off the engine cover, i follow some of the directions from other threads, started at the air box, moved left following the TB. Then I get to the pcv hose tip where you use to seafoam.... If I start from that tip, where should i follow to find the valve..??

Standing in front of the car, lean over towards the back side of the engine's top intake cover. The PCV valve will be located over the back edge on the right hand side. It'll have a vacuum hose connected to it.

Thx for the diagram, but sorry, I followed the diagram but I still cant seem to find the PCV Valve. On the diagram, #1, that would be the vaccum hose right..?? so as I follow it, it brings me to the back right under the driver side wiper!!

The other hoses that connect elsewhere are at the bottom of the throttle body.

Is their an actual picture maybe..?

The diagram is indeed for 99. It is more like #9 in 2000+. Just follow my steps and you cant miss it.
- Remove engine cover
- Put your hand on the top (cold) engine and move your hand toward the windshield along the top engine.
- The first hose you hit with your hand is the one. Just like #9 in the diagram. connects to #2
- Trace your hand to the right (toward driver side), about 6 inches down and there it is PCV. PCV position is the same in the diagram.

Its part #2. It sits on the REAR valve cover (the silverish painted part) It will be easier for you to locate if you take the engine cover off.


Oh and the hose DOES NOT go to the throttle body. It attaches to the intake tube where the arrow points. The illustration can be a little deceiving (the arrow by the E3 points to where it goes as well)

This is where the (red) line runs to the PCV on the right. the left side is where the tube connects back to the engine. The diagram is in fact deceiving.

Thanks everyone, I found it and changed it, the old PCV Valve was hard to blow through it but could hear the ball when shake. Now I will monitor the oil leak and see if it will leak. I just raised the car too and cleaned all underneath and will monitor to see if oil will be all over again.

Hopefully this will take care of your motor's leak. May the 'Ziner Gods shine upon your TL. A $10 fix for what was diagnosed as a leaking rear main seal would be awesome and testimonial to checking the simple things first ! Best of luck, and let us all know what the outcome is.

with pcv clogging you can figure its ugly inside

run seafoam thru oil to rid passages of clogging sludge
we need correct oil pressure for vtec to operate
and for general oil flow and cooling

I install a new filter and half can seafoam to oil before change
drive ~200 miles with it in the system
change with oil warm so sludge is liquefied and gets out

you can run seafoam in oil for 500 miles/month safely,,I do
cut apart the filter after replacement and its always fuil of crud particles that were restricting oil flow
yes i run long interval between change with synth oil and new filter halfway thru

So August 15 I cleaned underneath the car after changing the PCV valve thinking it would stop the engine oil leak, unfortunately the oil leak is still there. The leak is very low, it almost took 2 weeks again to see a drop on the driveway, raised the car and underneath is getting wet again.

Its such an expensive fix due to removing the transmission. Any suggestions to stop the leak from the rea main seal. ?

once pressure is removed with new pcv and hose is clear
leak should stop
it may take some driving,,and switch to high mileage oil with leak sealers
I would seafoam the oil then change to high mileage

you know that clogged pcv was a major cause so give it a little time now

yes full removal of trans and flywheel- then seal is behind that
several hours labor in total

remove cover plate under car and wipe all oil from it
wash under car with simple green, gunk or car wash with car on ramps

it will blow oil from many areas,,if sloppy oil change= for example

I have 166,000 km's on my TL, what high mileage oil with leak sealers would you recommend..?

I have heard of bars leak for rear main seal but not to sure if I want to put that in my engine. Because the engine runs amazing so far

NO on the bars leak
just a name brand oil with `high mileage formula`
they all make one `for cars with over 75kmiles`
