P1709 Error Code

The other day my check engine light turned on and so i had my cousin connect his palm pilot to my computer to check it out. I received the error code P1709 and i looked it up and it was Automatic Transaxle (transmission) System Malfunction. I cleared the code and i havent had a problem with it anymore but im curious to know if anyone knows why this might have happened. thanx

I'M A SERVICE ADVISOR AT AN ACURA DEALER IN NY AND HAVE A WHITE 03 TYPE S. WE USE A PGM TESTER TO DIAGNOSE CODES FOR VARIOUS COMPUTER PROBLEMS. I'M WITH YARON ON THIS ONE. HOW ON EARTH DID U GET A CODE WITH A PALM PILOT & WHERE DID YOU FIND THE PROPER CONNECTION. SEEMS VERY INTERESTING TO ME.

Totally off topic here but I noticed you were a service advisor. I see you are now here but we have way too many threads on the TL tranny's. My friend is a Honda tech and used to work for Acura. He said it is blown out of proportion, and he does not replace too many. How bad is it???

Basically my cousin uses a palm pilot along with a special connection that they sell for it and it fits right into the computer slot on my car. It should fit on all TL's 99+ because so far it worked on my car and also my brother that has a 2002 TL-S. My cousin uses the palm pilot on his eclipse to tune his car. Every time he races or modifies something on his car he hooks up the palm pilot and reads all the information and then he tunes it. That thing canm do all kinds of things. For example..he can graph like a few different races and look at the differences in all the races by that he tunes his car and stuff like that. If any of the service lights come on it either gives you a description of the problem or a general code and then you can also reset it if u want. Im gonna find out the website he got it from if you guys like and i will post it.

That would also require some kind of special software. I don't think they come ready to check out cars.

I've got one of these scanners myself. I bought the software and cable to hook up my Sony Clie to read OBDII error codes for any car from 1996 and newer. I can read check engine light codes and also reset the light as well. A must-have if you do a lot of work on your own car.

DJSALG, the one i used on my car was one that my cousin bought at www.pocketlogger.com. It works pretty good. Take a look at the site. They are selling the Palm Pilot, the software(which is OBD-II), and the cable for like $175.

I got mine from Auterra. It wasn't cheap but it works well and I get lifetime free software updates and tech support (or at least until the company goes under )
