Question P0845 w/ a P0740

TCS + CEL came on today omw into work. Nothing was acting any different(nor shifting any different).

Get codes read & get the two listed in title (P0845 w/ a P0740)

According to this thread (here):
  • P0740 Torque Converter Clutch Circuit Malfuction
  • P0845 3rd Clutch pressure switch circuit fault
AutoZone's code lookup said the 0740 description as "Transmission lock-up control system fault" (assuming same thing as above)

My tranny was rebuilt a year or two ago ~30k+ miles ago (iirc). Haven't noticed a difference in how it's been driving.

Where to even start troubleshooting this? ('03 TL)

Last image, I promise. I checked the fluid b/c a few people said it could be as simple as low trans fluid.

What's the point of that top hole at the very top of the stick? Is it supposed to be between that area or between the little holes at the bottom of the dipstick? Mine was around where I put that red mark. That normal? Too much or too little, possibly?
Sorry..trying to spit out as much info as I can to possibly get someone to give suggestions

the very top hole has nothing to do with you

the 2 at the bottem are the low and full marks

only way to get an accurate read is drive 15 minutes from dead cold
get on freeway immedialty and drive 15 miles- get off freeway and park on safe level ground
engine off- trans in Park
wipe stick clean,,ck level- should be BETWEEN the 2 lower dots,,
not at either one- between--
at that trans fluid temp of 15 minute freeway cruise

the pressure switch/shift selenoid could be clogged- been several of those recently
you can diy clean or replace and restore trans operation
iirc 3rd and 4th gear are often the suspect units
try search feature

I've never cleaned those. I have seen the DIY pop up every now n then tho. Have always been reluctant to do it cause of taking ANY possible chance of fucking my trans (i seem to have bad luck). Anyway, I guess that's the only thing I can def try now

Could a clogged solenoid cause codes to trip like that?

ALso, the DIY seems to be for a '99. I see there's a dif spot where they're located on '00 and up?

After looking around that bunched in bunch-o-shit area, I can't see which bolts I'm needing to take off to access the screens.
This?

Got that fucking right. I've been down that road not too long ago. I remember the slipping etc I went through. I'm not experiencing any of that or any abnormal signs . That's why I'm so confused these codes

What makes you think that? It could just be overheating due to low fluid, which I'll check int he A.M. via 04tl's method above, or just the filter is clogged, no? Wouldn't I experience tranny shudder/slippage etc?

I recently got P1768 which apparently means:

Code Make Description
P1768 Acura CLUTCH PRESSURE CONTROL(LINEAR) SOLENOID VALVE A FAILURE

I've driven onthis code for about 3 tanks now because I didn't (and still don't) feel any difference in shifting or performance. I think it might be a faulty sensor (I could be wrong). It could be the same in your case.

just a guess because the 3.2 TL is infamous for bad torque converters according to truedelta.com but im probably wrong. come to think about, it i remember reading about the p0740 coding just a week ago on a forum. it was bad shift solenoids which needed to be replaced. i doubt it has anything to do with tranny fluid, once i went on for 80,000km and 7 years on original tranny fluid with no problems. how does the car shift?

I've been trying to find out where the hell the shift solenoids are, but I'm not having any luck with someone suggesting where they are in the shift solenoid thread

Update: I reset the codes yesterday, and I haven't had the CEL/TCS trigger again (driven 50+ miles since). I know they won't just "go away", but hopefully, this will give me some time to clean the shift solenoid screens I suppose.

Here ya go.... This is on a 3G but it was the same for my 02 TL. I replaced mine just as a precautionary measure.

Nice. Think faulty pressure switch(es) could have caused both those codes I received? And is it OK to drive with (for now) until I get the parts & replace 'em?

Still has WAY to much fluid in it if the level is where he said it was.

Yeah. I followed 01tl4tl's method just driving from first start of the morning(after sitting all night) for 15min on freeway. checked it...was still high. so waited again & did it this morning. even sooner, still same fucking level! here's the thing. i haven't touched the trans fluid ever. it was rebuilt a couple years ago (like 30k miles ago), and i remember it always kinda being at a "high level" iirc....

so its been running high level since fluid installed at rebuild,
when some momo put in 8 instead of 7.3 qts

drain some out--thats simple! requires a 3/8 ratchet, maybe a breaker bar or hammer to leverage a stuck drain bolt

high level can cause excess pressures and other issues,,fix that and proceed with testing/diagnostics

Ya. That's a good idea. I honestly find it hard to screw up finding a close to proper reading of the fluid. It's not rocket science, so I know it can't be me

I'll drain some tomorrow & see where I go from there. Thx

start with 1/2 qt,,
save it or get new qt of honda dw1 in case you take out too much~
Im just guessing someone threw in 8-9 qts--seems logical for your reading

if thats really the case- I would change the fluid,,its been frothing and foaming for a long time= not lubricating

We dont have the solenoid on 03. 03 uses transmisstion filter, if the filter is clogged, low fluid could be the cause, and of course, could be torque converter, but I agree, go with the simple route first. #9 on the diagram of 99 is number #9 for 03, but are different parts.

I highly recommend replacing the tranny filter. I don't believe replacing or rebuilting the tranny will replace the filter unless it was requested. It is very easy to do with a 10mm offset wrench, and a adjustable wrench to remove the filter.

This is what you need to replace:

https://acurazine.com/forums/showthr...=tranny+filter

This is the screen solenoid, but 03 does not have it:

Agreed. So you brought this next question upon yourself

There a thread that I can search for that tells where/how to do this? Believe it or not, I can easily follow instructions. I've done other things to my car, anything besides t-belt etc change(eff that job), so i can follow instructions w/o too much of an issue

edit: nvm you read my mind. thx dude

No. I reset the codes & it hasn't come back in over 200miles since. I know it'll come back, but I haven't had time to mess with it. I've borrowed my wife's vehicle past couple weeks while she's been outta town. I imagine it's the fluid I'm running + the amount. If not, I'll go other suggested routes.

You encounter same issue/codes?
