oil info (what kind of filter, how muhc oil, what kind of oil)
I really don't know how to change the oil myself and I am only 16. Acura won't let me bring the car in for service because they claim you have to be 18 and my parents are soo lazy so they won't take it in either. My friend changes the oil on his car all the time but he asked me to find out what kind of oil to use, what kind of filter and also how much oil the car requires. Can you guys help me out? thanks a lot.

I don't want to re-ignite the whole oil/filter debate, and Mobil 1 is very good oil... But they recently went non-synthetic.
I use Amsoil - totally synthetic - and a Mobil 1 filter.

Just go to acura for their filters, saves on shipping if you ordered online. You could also use like the pureone oil filters that fit your car at baxter if you live too far away from Acura. I have a 2000TL and the manual says to use 5W30 for my car. On newer models it says to use 5W20. But 5W30 should do just fine.

Oil capacity for the 2002 and newer TL/TL-S is 4.6 quarts with a filter change. OEM filter is the same as the one for the Honda Accord. Save some cash and go to your nearest Honda dealer and pick up the filter and the crush washer for the drain plug there--it's cheaper than at an Acura dealer.
You can only get the OEM filter through Honda/Acura (either dealer or online). No retail outlets carry them.

use the stock acura / honda filter, they are not expensive, probably around 6 bucks each at most
for oil, use mobil one 5w-30, that's what i am using and they are very nice. you need 4.6 to 4.75 quart

i went to pep boys yesterday about bought 5qts of 5w30 mobil1, it was about 26 dollars so not too bad. The parts department at the local Honda dealer was closed yesterday so i think im gonna go by there later and pick up the OEM oil filter. One more question, what is a "crush washer" (i dont really no anything about doing an oil change)

I got a Thank You letter in the mail Saturday from ACURA Service. They also sent a coupon for about $10.00 OFF service or parts. I will use it for my next oil change because it good thru01/2003.
