So recently I have been hearing this noise coming from under the hood on the passenger side. I just started hearing it when I start my car but I noticed it does it when I turn the A/C on and when I acclerate slowly like going up in a driveway. I wish I had a video so I could show you guys the noise but hopefully someone knows what im talking about ...



Also has anyone had the problem when turning off there defroster when its on 60 after you turn it off sounds like a rock hitting behind the A/C controls...

Both of my parents Fords do this. It has to do with the valve that controls the referigerant/temp in my case, It has been doing it on an off since day one - it's a feature to know that the truck's ac has accepted what your saying - jk
I forget what the valves called.
The "connection" to the blower motor is also prone to overheat and fail, its located underneath the glovebox.

i think the owners manual says something about that noise in the AC section

likely noise suspects under ac load-
ac belt tensioner pulley, located at top of engine behind the alternator,cant miss it!

Use a mechanics stethascope or long screwdriver- place tip against NON moving base of unit, listen for neighbor kids garage rock band type sounds--whirring and thunking, bad rythym
compare to good turning objects- with slight whir but smooth sound to it

thats the bearing shot in the tensioner- very common, got mine done at 80kmiles- had been noisy since 45 and got really bad,,aftermaket $85-100 part for complete unit

can do the listen test (stethascope much preferred $4 Harbor freight tools 5-10 part stores )
to ac compressor, ps pump, anything that moves and has a solid point you can place the tip on
Listening to valves will tell if one or more are making a different noise than the rest- means needs adjustment

ck the cabin air filter condition- just go ahead and replace it if not done in the last 12 months

ck the wire connector unit to the blower motor- a short wire makes it tight fit and many have the prob of connector MELTING and possibly buring the plastic

acura makes an update `blower motor wire kit`- less than 20 bucks, longer wires new connector, splices in easy

the other noise may be the doors in the vent system-
it helps to turn the fan down to 1 when changing where the air is going- less strain on a tiny motor moving a plastic panel and springs that at level 5 blaster air speed

note to all-
keep that small vent in the rear of center console/armrest/storage bin
OPEN at all times--
the one for rear passengers- Open rear door and look if you dont know about it

you cant stop the air from pumping there and gets blocked up in there- escaping thru the leak in plastic sleeve fitting-- freezing or heating your console stored items/cd's, and temp changing the cup holders
Open the vent and the air has somewhere to go
also cuts down mildew mold potential in the vent

k i will check all of those things
because that noise is getting annoying esp when I park downstairs in the garage at work all you hear is that noise since everything is enclosed

I have noticed something that has happen about 4-5 times over the past 4-5 weeks. When I turn on the A/C after I startup the car I hear a loud screech and bang from under the hood. It only happens when I turn on the A/C. I have replaced the belts and just recently the belt tensioner thinking that was the problem. Could it be that the compressor is starting to go out?

get a $5 mechanics stethascope at parts store- start probing the compressor for bearing noises - ck the replaced tensioner--even new parts fail

replaced the ps belt too? if its set too tight many problems occur

checked out bought one of those mechanic stehtascopes (those come in handy) so anyway listened to it... Sounded like a bad bearing inside the A/C pulley went to the stealership and they said I have to get the whole new clutch system 206 bucks I said hmmmm I'll come back

ck with an ac repair shop, call a few parts stores, use the internet to find one aftermarket

bearing in ac pulley--you mean belt tensioner or ac compressor has issue in its clutch?

yea so they said I have to replace the whole clutch but I think im just going to start with the tensioner to see if that works since its cheaper

if its the compressor clutch there is no getting around it
did the tensioner make bad noises in the stethascope?- you can easily tell if its bad or not,,smooth sound or grinding whirring
compare to other bearings

go ask an ac shop about new/rebuilt whole compressor vs fixing yours
System will need a vac and refill after install of compressor
