No Radio Code in Acura system

Hi all,

I recently bought a 2001 Acura TL as my FIRST car. It is a nice car. Runs smooth.

I had to change the battery. But after that the radio asks for a code. I Searched this Forum and found some useful threads on how to get the Code. Since i bought it from someone i dont have the owners manual and the code. I tried the trick where you press 1 and 6 presets on the radio and turn on the radio, to reveal the serial no, but my radio doesnt show anything. So i called a few Acura dealers and they said it will cost me around 100-150$ to get the radio out to find the serial no. So i tried to take out the radio myself and found the Serial Number on the bottom of the radio. Then i again called Acura dealers asking for code with the serial number but they say that the system doesnt show any code for that serial number. I tried 3 dealers and they all said the same thing.

Please tell me what to do now to get my radio working.

I have the VIN no of the car and the Serial No of the radio.

Thanks

www.owner.acura.com can help you and get free download of owner manual !

dealer phone person is told they have to see it in person yadayada
to get money from you

Did you read in our DIY section the different methods depending on year?
Looked in places the old owner may have written it down- edge of glovebox door, inside a fuse box cover- ck the fuse covers under the hood, inside center armrest,,
maybe a salesmans card fallen under seat?

When you do get it, there is a secure storage area on acura.com

our diy master list https://acurazine.com/forums/2g-tl-1999-2003-98/new-official-2nd-gen-tl-diy-thread-706083/
good luck!

Thanks guys for replying.

I checked the whole car for the code. even asked my friends to look in case i missed it, but found nothing. Searched everyplace which is mentioned in this forum.

I opened up the radio to look for the serial number. I was able to remove everything mentioned, except one screw holding the radio on the driver side woudnt open. But the serial number was written below the radio so i was able to read it.

Now i have the serial number and the VIN no, but the dealers are saying that there is no CODE for this serial number in their system. One of the dealers gave me Acura's number but they are available only Mon-Fri.

I bought this car on 2nd Oct.

I checked it on owners.acura.com, but they require details of the original owner that they have on the file but i dont have that information.

Thanks for replying and welcoming me here.

I read somewhere on here (I think), that the serial # is printed twice on the radio, but the one on the back may be longer, you may have to actually get the radio out to see this one. If you can get to it, and it's longer, then they should be able to get you the code from that.

I lucked out and the original owner wrote down the code in the manual, I needed it the other day after they replaced my transmission.

do an online search for getting the code--there are a few,,dont use the pay sites.. yet

acura corp doesnt know the code? sounds like $150 worth of bs to me!!
though, my nav was replaced and they had a heck of a time locating its new code later

the seriel number you are finding may not be the one needed for ID
the nav has two numbers, an easy to reach one,, and the `real one` hidden until entire unit is removed
