New owner of a type s. Just wanted to say wassup.

I've been driving a first gen tl for about 3 and a 1/2 years now and I decided to upgrade. Picked up a 02' ABP type s w/navi yesterday night ! Hope to learn more about this car from you guys and get some inspiration on things that I can do to it. I just have a few questions...
I know theres a recall on the transmission. Is there anything else besides that? Should I bring it to the dealers just to make sure everythings fine?

First thing I want to get is a nice alarm w/ remote start for this car. What do you guys suggest? I read from previous posts that the Viper 791XV and Prestige APS-996A are really good.

My navi cd is a version 2.03. Do you guys think its necessary to update it? I know it costs about $175 for the lastest version and I dont want to pay that much if there isnt that much of a difference. Do they actually sell knockoff ones?

Well thats I need to know for now. See you guys around...

good work on the upgrade! On the Navi, if you are missing roads in your area and it annoyes you then yet upgrade. You can check Ebay also, you can usually get a better price.

Congrats bro. I hope the dudes at Ford of Dublin treated you with respect. They were great to me when I looked at the car, even when I didn't get it they still were very nice to me . How much did you end up paying?

Yea... the handling and power is sooooo much better than the 1st gen. The sport shift is so much fun...haha. Hey lister...thanks for the info you gave me. Yea the guys were nice except for the GM who was trying to be a smartass with me. I walked out after talking to him but I called the sales guy back and talked it down to 21.7.

I checked them out and the cheapest Type S they had was ~25K
. I'm actually going to save up some money and make a large downpayment on an 05 TL w/A-Spec. Hopefully I will get it a year or so from now . I just started my first post university job, so I think I should wait awhile before making a car purchase.

Welcome aboard 98tlracer. I upgraded from ver. 2.03 to the current nav ver & found it well worth the ~$200 (with shipping).

Congrat on your purchase. Nice color. Almost got one when I picked up mine NBP.

As for the navi DVD upgrade, i think it's worth it since there are a lot of updates and I think it runs much faster and smoother. My old 2.03 navi would never quite remember where it was last shutdown. Once in a while, i would be driving away from my house on the wrong street until GPS synced up.

Sorry there isn't any knock-off and don't mention anything about someone having a copy.
