Need opinions: buying larger exhaust tips instead of buying a new muffler

ok after like 10 min of thinking i was thinking about buying new exhaust tips something larger than the stock ones to make it *LOOK* like i have a modified exhaust...the reason i want this is cuz i like how it looks but i wanna keep the car silent since it's a luxury car.

So what do u guys think?
did anyone here do this??

I think that's a good idea. Exhaust is mainly for noise and cosmetics, and of little or no performance value anyway. If you're happy with the stock sound, why bother with the whole system. Getting better looking tips wouldn't be much different then improving the looks of any other part of the car.

i would have done the same if i didnt get the exhaust

just stay conservative. make sure its stainless steel. im not sure about chrome...it will get really dirty real quickly since there will be exhaust fumes all around it

i have a chrome tip on my other car and it always looks like its corroded...even though you can wipe it clean

I'd keep the factory tips....keep them shiny and they look good. When you put on aftermarket tips it will look cheasy unless you remove your old ones, but even still that is something more common on a civic just my .02

I don't think that's good idea....
If you want to keep the luxury look...just stay OEM...
I personally think the huge tip doesn't look good if it attached on OEM muffler....
But like I said this is just my personally opinion...

Yep, I think it will look cheasy too, especially went you have more than 2.5 inch diameter.

Not true. I had tips before I got my Comptechs. Look:

Those are 3" tips, and they looked kind of small but better than stock. With stock tips its obvious that they are just covers for the puny little exhaust.

Make sure you get stainless steel tips, like mr tl said, because chrome tips will corrode from the exhaust. With the stainless Comptechs you can just wipe off the black build up from the exhaust, with chrome tips it ruins the chrome and looks like **** real fast.

It's funny to see before and after pics of people's cars, especially Nate's. Man, he's got all the toys.

What about these??

What do you think of these two stainless steel tips?
What is your opinion between these two if they were connected to the factory mufflers with no body kit?? Here is the size info: Fits 1½" - 2½" Pipes. 2H" In - 3½" Out resonated stainless steel exhaust tip
Will they fit on our factory mufflers??

I had tips very similar to those when I first started modding my car, they don't look bad at all. I think Frank/VTEC still has those same tips on his car.

cjscott,
They are made by Pilot (never heard of them).
I found them on the web by doing a search for stainless steel exhaust tip. They cost about $30. I don't know how far they will stick out from the bumper....I think it would be a bit further than the stock tips. I kinda like the first one better.....looks a little different than stock....kinda like a Comptech muffler. Any other opinions? It would be great to hear from someone that has this size on their stock mufflers so we can find out how far they stick out....pics would be even better! Thanks!
