What OEM spark plugs look like at 193k
Just thought I would post this for information, I changed the plugs today on our 2002 193k Acura, super easy to do, took about 45mins, and this is what the original plugs looked like, as you can see the the fine tip is worn away on most of them. The thing is, the car ran pretty good, just a very slight rough idle, no codes at all!
I also cleaned out the EGR valve and ports, there was a ton of carbon build-up, the 6 ports looked like they had black plastic washer in them, but it was carbon build-up, the channels weren't much better, I would say that it was about 50% blocked at a minimum.
The car goes so much better now, rough idle has gone and a noticeable
increase in power, well worth the 2 hours of work.

Geez, If those were the original factory plugs from 16 years ago then it just goes to show you why everyone recommends nothing but those NGK Laser platinum's for our cars. I've seen Bosch double platinum's foul out at about 80k on Tl's, sounds like a job well done.
I took it a step further and removed the intake manifold to clean the lower air intakes while changing the valve cover gaskets and the car literally drove like new, like all the old factory power was back.

Damn it took long enough to change those plugs! with the current prices in spark plugs specially those of the Iridium Plugs it makes no sense to go for the Laser Platinum´s… Most people would have moved on with the car after the Iridium Plug wore down.

I've seen Iridium plugs a few times before (not in a Acura and not Laser Platinum) that have around 100k on them and they looked in really good shape, the fine tip was still very visible, on these Laser Platinum it was all but gone - I replaced with Iridium. Just amazed at how well the car ran with them in this condition.
I'm the third owner, original owner had the car for around 100k miles, gave car to son-in-law who had for around another 90k miles (190k total), who did no maintenance himself, but did have the transmission (reconditioned trans) and timing chain replaced and 143k. Car runs great and every single thing still works, all the electric windows, heated seats, heated mirrors etc, I've seen a 2002 Type S for sale locally (it's blue, my favorite color) and I'm so tempted to buy it now!
