FINALLY got all the passenger wiring out the car before it got dark so when the weathers nice I'm going to put the new wiring in. This one was an extra pain in my ass but I snapped a few pics because most of the time I was just yanking shit everywhere I could to get it out hahaha

FINALLY

OUT

Good thing I never have to see all that again

All empty

Whats left

A farewell finger to the old wiring

so sad

sleeping till next time

I'm almost there. Once I get the passenger side done I should be able to reprogram my key and then hopefully hear her roar for the first time. Pretty stoked.

Looks like you need to fix your windshield washer hose.

So you need to put the new wiring in now? I hope you remembered where everything went when you started yanking the old stuff out like a mad man lol

Lol it was like that when I got the car, never bothered to fix it. And yea I remember where everything goes made sure of it before I started yanking shit. Its actually a lot easier to tell different wires in the engine bay compared to under the dash. Must say after all this I think I've gotten pretty good at wiring compared to when I started But yea basically going to put the new harness in, put the interior and everything else back together, recharge my battery cause its dead, make sure everything works, crank that bitch over, get my key reprogrammed and then fire it up

Well if its disconnected and you have fluid in the washer tank, make sure not to pull the wiper stalk or else your engine bay is going to get all wet.
I don't use it to wash my windshield so I just emptied it and kept it that way. Weight savings

Pic didnt work. Your driving it already?

Smoke is probably from the grease on the exhaust manifold or downpipes. It should go away soon. Make sure your not leaking coolant though, especially from around the throttle body area.

dunno how to post the vid in my reply so ill just put the link. anyways yea its definitely a coolant problem which was really bad on my part because the motor started to overheat so i had to pull over and let it cool down and it wouldnt start for a sec because it was so hot so i had to wait. my heater hoses are bad and the coolant level was really really low like almost none so the motor was running dry which is a huge problem. and im going to run a compression test to make sure i didnt mess up any of the cylinders just want to be sure. so right now its at the shop and their running the compression numbers and well see what it comes up with tomorrow.

ok so i have really bad news for the car.

i blew a head gasket because of the coolant levels when i started the motor and started to take it home. i hadnt noticed the radiator wasnt filled with coolant and so it started smoking when i was driving home. i pulled over and let it cool off so it wouldnt get too hot. unfortunately it was too late and i had it brought into a shop so they could run a compression test and figure out what the problem was. turns out the head gasket is blown. it was so bad that the motor got so hot i couldnt even touch the dipstick because it was blazing hot. so now i have two options from here.

1. rebuild the head gasket and keep original motor which i was quoted 2100$ to fix which is so sad to think about because i just got the car running and spent so much money on it.

2. i have a guy who would sell me a spare type s engine from an 02 TL-S for 500$ but its an automatic motor and I'd have to take the 6 spd parts from the motor i have now and put it in the 02 motor and then pull the other motor and swap in the new one. only thing is i dont have the time or place to work on it and do the work myself so i was going to get a quote for labor on this option as well and see how they weigh out.

im really stuck at this point and i feel like giving up and have lost lots of motivation to keep working on the car. but ive come so far i dont want to just give up now after everything so i dont know guys what do you think?

Damn man. Keep your head up! Sucks that happened. You don't think you can keep working on it and change the gasket yourself? Fix it and drive it! You already drove it so I'm sure you really don't want to quit now. Don't give up bro!

^ i could do that but the thing is im about to leave for a month after december and dont want the car to sit because i dont have time to fix it before i leave. as a matter of fact even if i did want to work on it myself i dont have a spot to take apart the car at so thats another problem which i am trying to figure out. because obviously and ideally i would want to work and fix it myself and not pay for labor but i really dont want to wait anymore and dont have all the time i need at this moment, so im stuck

Damn that's horrible. I think you answered your own question though...replacing the head gasket would be the quickest way and be close to the same cost as the other option. The motor swap alone should be around $900, plus extra to swap parts, plus the price of the motor itself and whatever may arise in the process.

It's rough to have to fork out the extra cash given the situation, but when you're able to enjoy the car for what it now is it will take some of the sting away. I would say just go for it and get it over with..I had an h22 swap in my accord that ran great for a bit until Vtec stopped working and it spun a bearing. After forking out 5k for the swap and extras, I put a newer bigger motor in and had to spend another 3k. Once I hopped in and was able to drive the bitch daily it took the pain away. Remember, you could have paid to have the swap done but you did it yourself and saved the cash. Even though you have to spend it now, you got the learning experience and you're able to tell people you did that shit solo. You'll have a ride that not many people have or ever see that you built... be proud of that.

Damn that sux Teo. I say just try to fix the gasket if the motor is not damage beyond repairs. Its more time consuming but saves alot more money.

Thanks for the encouragement man. That's exactly what I was thinking this morning when I woke up. I thought why would I sell it when I put everything of myself into it and into building it myself. Too much hard work to just give up now after all the shit I did and hours of labor. I think I'm going to fix it myself and just let it sit until I have the time to work on it myself. I honestly can't give it up after everything I love the thing too much. Plus when I got a taste of the power it had the day I did get to drive it I knew I couldnt turn back on feeling that shit everyday haha.

Yea the motor is fine they said at least the block wasn't cracked or anything just the gasket and I just need to do some more research on fixing the head gasket so I can fix it myself. Plus I don't have money and wont spend money for them to fix it if it's easier myself. Already put hundreds of hours into the swap so what's a few more for the gasket gonna hurt anyways

Cool man, I think if you just take a little break from it you'll feel more inclined to jump back on it with a fresh mind. Some people's cars kick the bucket and they just buy new ones, but when you get attached to your ride, why not take that money and MAKE it a new car!? Bigger, better and faster. It will all be worth it in the end, glad to see your gonna take a stab at it! It's a comforting feeling once you get to know your ride up and down.....damn, now I'm starting to wish I could find my old car and buy it back!

Teo, I think you rushed into this. You rushed with the wiring and even tried to crank it up without all the wires attached. Now the head gasket blew because I think you rushed into driving it. If your redoing the head gasket yourself, just take your time and do it right because you don't want to spend all that time and rush just to find out that you'll end up buying and swapping a motor into there. Just a word of advice man. Best of luck to you and the car, your too close to give up now

ok, so its smog time for the car and i know its not going to pass. ran a code reader thru it and this is what came up.

Now, ever since I've driven the car the idle has been around 2-3k and I'm pretty sure its because the TPS sensor is cracked. Here's a pic.

What I'm understanding is that this would somehow relate also to the Engine Overspeed Condition as well due to the possible broken sensor which will throw off the RPMs? Because everytime I'm in neutral at a stop light it just stays constant around 3k or a little under. With that in mind I do have a new TPS sensor coming in tomorrow which I ordered and I will replace. I'm hoping this will get rid of those codes. Any other suggestions?

Now, as for the evap pressure sensor I was reading around and found that its related to fuel pressure sensor reading? Because right now when the car is on it doesn't read the amount of gas I have, meaning the needle stays at empty and the low fuel light is on even though I have gas. I've heard the setup is different from the 03 cls harness to the 99 TL body or something along those lines because the fuel pressure sensor for the TL is in the trunk? If anyone could help clear up these ideas it would be greatly appreciated.

I'm going to post a video of some of the symptoms too in just a second

Yea I had the same shit for my 02 TL-P as far as the EVAP and gas stuff goes.

Essentially, the problem with the EVAP and gas, and all the other sensors on the driver's rear side of the car, is because the harness doesn't directly plug in.

All of the wires are the same, but they need to be repinned to connect with each other. You need to get the electric service manual and repin some of those connectors.

I noticed that the Evap system was run through four wires, so I just repinned those four. It was like:

1. Gas level signal
2. Ground
3. Evap something
4. Evap something else

It was something like that, so I just connected those four wires directly. It fixed the P0450 and the gas gauge worked. Now I have no CEL whatsoever.

For the TPS and engine overspeed, it seems like you have a vacuum leak. Definitely replace the TPS and see what happens, but that's a huge vac leak.

And for the coolant, the 99 TL is different.

In this case, the 99 TL naturally has a direct signal from the Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) Sensor. It goes straight from the engine harness, to the left engine bay harness, to the dash harness, to the cluster.

It never passes through the ECU.

However, if you did a true manual swap, none of this should matter. Are you running a Richie module or something?
