Lifetime fuel filter --- what's the definition of "lifetime?"

Title says it all. I've talked to the dealer and searched the forums, but there doesn't seem to be much on how long "lifetime" is for. Realistically, I can't believe that I can have a 2000 TL for 200k miles or more (currently at 118k) and not have a slight decrease in performance due to a dirty filter. I especially can't believe it when the CL's, RL's, Integra's, 1st gen TL's, etc. all have a fuel filter. It's not like the gas I put in the TL, which is 91, is cleaner than the gas the RL or 1st gen TL driver puts in his car.

Has anyone replaced their filter or know about how many miles Acura expects us to drive the TL in a "lifetime?"

Thanks!

240K? wow. Nice to hear I can possibly get my money's worth out of the car. Have you ever pulled out the sock part to see how clean it is? Also, is there a 2nd filter in the line somewhere? A few threads mentioned it, but they were old and the pictures didn't come up.

Welcome to the forum

Fsttmys1 has years of experience with these cars and unheard of miles driven on his highly modded TL- his word is THE Word

Just run a can of seafoam in 1/4 tank of gas and read the thread Seafoamed the Ol TL and do that service for $20 to restore performance

Strange, I use to change the filter on my Integra's every 15k. It was under the hood. One less thing to worry about with the TL =)

That's what I was thinking, but it seems like you don't have to worry about it. I'd be curious to learn how it works and where the sediment that would clog a normal filter goes.
