Legend Calipers

Been having brake problems as of late. Front end was shaking pretty bad so naturally thought is was the rotors. Replaced them with Napa blanks with a lifetime warranty. they were fine for about one week and the shake came back again. Turns out they weren`t the rotors but the passenger side caliper was hanging up.

Went with the 95 Legend calipers as opposed to the OEM. Got them from Oreilly at a little over a hundred bucks for the pair.

Part #`s
19-1744
19-1745

Shake is gone, took about an hour to replace(direct fit made it easy) I suppose this is an upgrade based on a two pot as opposed to a single pot caliper and also less expensive.

Install DIY tips:
Get a bottle of brake cleaner, brake grease packets (2) and some dot 3 brake fluid.
Prefill the caliper with brake fluid before installing.
Clean and lube the slides and the back of the brake pads.
Bleed the brakes after installed

This is a known problem on all of these cars.

Rotors do not usually go bad its the calipers causing it.

Glad you got yours fixed.

We use DOT4 spec brake fluid. not dot3

When you have a brake line open- like when changing calipers- after repairs you MUST do 2 ABS active full stops from 45mph
Use gravel or wet road and wild turning of the steering to keep ABS engaged and pedal rapidly pumping itself under your foot
After stop accelerate to 45mph and stand on the brake pedal again!!
Do this 2 times, watching for improved/firmer pedal on 2nd stop.
If there is ANY change = you had air hiding in the ABS- it happens!

Rebleed system with the normal TL order of driver front then clockwise around the car = LF RF RR LR
chances are the air will be in LF but do them all to be safe

reminder- Once a Year is time to flush brake fluid fully till all new clean fluid comes out the bleeders. 1.5 qts will do the TL very well.
Use new DOT4 brake fluid from a foil sealed container, not old stuff from your shelf- it goes bad once opened

Reminder #2 Legend calipers get installed reverse of their indicated use- one with big R stamped on it goes on L or driver side for our usage. That puts the bleeder nipple at the top where it belongs

the overall pressure and where its applied to the pad is greatly improved with 2 pistons
Also the middle or 3rd finger support bar on the outer side keeps pad flex to a minimum.

The Legend and old NSX used same design caliper, so they were made to haul down the speed quickly.

Next mod for you should be SS brake lines, what a difference they make- add to bad-azz calipers with good pads and its a stopping machine!

Haven`t seen any problems with the dot 3 synthetic. Will get the Honda BF though. The PS fluid is a another story car steering is funky with aftermarket fluid.

The calipers were installed in reverse with bleeder nipple in the same place as the old ones. After the bleeding the brakes noticed no bubbles in the drain lines but did notice a softer pedal.

How many bottles of Honda Brake Fluid to bleed the whole system?

I looked up the Oreilly part numbers you gave and it shows one pot calipers in the picture. The ones you got are two pot correct? I may order a pair of these tonight. Thanks.

AFAIK.
Honda stuff is DOT3, I believe DOT 4 was a racing alternative by the time the 2G came out.. It wasn´t made OEM until many years later, Now you can use safely DOT5.1 no need to use the older stuff.

They are two pot. Even double checked the invoice. Did you search 95 Legend GS?

Might change from dot 3 with the caliper change. But, the DOT 3 synthetic IMO performed well in winter climates. If I tracked my car or lived in a warmer state I would definitely opt for the one with a higher temperature threshold.

They also last longer so if you are doing 1-2 year changes on brake fluid you can double the change periods on DOT5.1

OP what did you do about the core charge? Did they accept the single pot TL calipers as a core?

I am sure they will know they are different calipers if you try to be sneaky about it. Unless your guy is good friends with you and doesnt care.

I went old fashioned (honesty) and told the guy ahead of time that I am swapping them out for an upgraded version. He didn`t say anything about it. Returned the core and got the money back. Actually they are getting the deal because the TL calipers are worth more. Win. Win. Did it in person instead of online.

Will these exact calipers fit on a 2003 acura tl-s? i have complete stock brakes but am needing new pads soon. but seeing as these give slightly better stopping power and are a plug n play type of installation, i would love to have these!

^ They don´t give better stopping power.. They add brake feeling which is very Numb on the stock brakes.. They also help prevent rotor warping. If you want better stopping power get aggressive brake pads ala EBC Yellow Stuff.

ahh okay, maybe thats what i was trying to get at But are the calipers a direct installation or are there additional mounting brackets/bolts/pieces i might need? or do i simply remove stock tls caliper and install new legend caliper? any advice is appreciated. i plan on doing the legend caliper conversion as soon as i know what all ill need to do so.

please and thanks!!

Yes they are plug and play..
Just remove the stock caliper and REUSE the stock sliding pins and Brake Bracket on the Legend Calipers.. Basically the only thing you will be replacing is the caliper itself everything else is kept from the TL.. Also don´t use the silly spring thingy from the Legend Calipers they are not needed.

The box that mine came in also came with new hardware, slides and pins. Get a tube of brake grease and lube up the pins, slides and back of the brake pad.

The only non TL thing I used are the Legend calipers. I re used my 03 TLS bracket and slider pins.

The car brakes amazing. No idea why I did not do this upgrade sooner.

That's great! but that disc is reversed..
The grooves should rotate clockwise, That disc goes on the left side.|

Also you didn't paint the caliper... It will rust in less than a month, The "Gunmetal" color you see is the bare metal.

Looks good! Change the rotors and your good to go.

Prep the caliper before you paint them (if you go that route). It comes with an oily film on them from the factory. Degrease and wipe clean. Brake cleaner might work.

Thanks, I did not know the rotors were side specific. The calipers look good now but I am sure your right they will rust. Will look into painting them.

Yeah that`s the one. Do yourself a favor and clean them up really good and spray them with some caliper paint. They will rust if you don`t put a protective coating on them.

Thank you!! And what was it about switching the sides? Or putting the left on the right side?? Didn't know if I had read that part right?

Left goes on right and right goes on left. The bleeder nipple should be on the bottom.

My bleeder nipples are on the top and my left side caliper says R on it so yes you need to reverse them in order to properly bleed the calipers.

Your are correct about the right on left side and left on right but the bleeder should be on top.

On the Legend the calibers mounted on the rear side of the rotors on the TL they mount on the front side of the rotors. This is why left on right and right on left. It also keeps the bleeder at the top.
