Burning Brakes
I've had it happen on a Isuzu. I just replaced the switch. It was relatively cheap (~$10) if I recall correctly.

yeah like we all said- the turn signal STALK- the part you use your finger on- that's failed- it can be replaced separate from the main thing all the switches bolt to
You MIGHT be able to restore with some CRC electrical spray cleaner- but more likely its going to be replace
Especially with that burning smell! that's NEVER a good sign!!

Just curious but what type of lighting are you using LED or regular bulbs ?

Thanks guys. I'll look into the stalk. It's weird because when I press down or up it starts to click as if the blinker was working but then stops.
FYI: all stock everything. No LEDs or anything like that.

the type of light is not the issue, its the simple fact the cars past owners have used the system many thousands of times- to signal intent of lane change or turn, via use of blinker!
for those wishing to convert to LED turn signals or dash/interior lighting = there are threads on led lighting for every part of the car in DIY or performance sections
